Does the device block the ground on the second wall outlet?

Accepted Answer

If you plug the powerline adapter into the bottom outlet of a two outlet wall socket, the top outlet is still accessible including the ground, but it is very tight so it depends on what you would want to plug in.  You would still be able to plug in a standard computer power cable or the plug from a power strip.

Question 2

If I were to buy two sets of this product, would the encryption be the same?  Asking this another way: If I hook my router into just one, would the other 3 be good for hosts, or would I need a pair for each host?

The encryption can be the same for all them.  One connected to your router and the other three connected to your host systems.  I've even used other trendnet adapters with all of them connecting to the single adapter connected to my router.

Question 3

do the devices need to me on the the same 120 volt circuit?

Accepted Answer

No, it should work fine.

They MAY need to be on the same circuit breaker *box*, if you're setting it up somewhere that has more than one.  It depends on whether there are noise filters installed between the different breaker boxes.

Question 4

Is this compatible with TRENDNet TPL-303E (200Mbps) adapters?  (ideally without any manual configuration).

I already have a pair of -303E's, and I would like to add one extra outlet (plus have a spare).

More generally, which other TRENDnet powerline adapters is this compatible with?

Yes, but I had some wieRd latency issues and went ahead and upgraded all mine to 500mbps and they went away.  I suggest you try it and if you get the same issues, upgRade your others.  This might have just been my issues.

Question 5

So there was only one review that stated 187mbps.  My question is that it says 500mbps, does that mean 250mbps both ways?  Or 500 down and 500 up?

I'm not impressed.  I bought 4 hoping to increase my speed for the two computers in the far corner of the house from my router and found that the wireless-N was still twice as fast checking a speed test website, and I'm not even approaching 500mbps.  I achieve 20Mbps with my wireless and only 11Mbps with these TRENDnets.  
I was extremely disappointed.
