The TRENDnet TU3-ETG Gigabit Ethernet adapter turns a USB 3.0 port into a Gigabit Ethernet port to take full advantage of today's high speed network connectivity. It complies with USB 3.0 standards and supports a Full Duplex 2Gbps transfer speed, while remaining backwards compatible with older USB 2.0 and 1.1 specifications. The ultra-compact, slim design makes it a great travel companion that can be easily packed into your laptop bag or backpack. Supports both Windows and Mac computers.
Pros: Fast. Doesn't get hot. (runs cool) Cheap Works nice in my new firewall box.
Cons: None really. Other than BSD seems to have dropped this chipset
Overall Review: I was upgrading my Opnsense router from a Core 2 duo e8400 to a Dell E6430 laptop (I5-3340 with AES). I used 2 Intel OEM GB Nic cards in my old firewall build. Dell E6430 has only one ethernet port so I needed another ethernet port. No matter what I tried, I could not get this adapter to work with Opnsense or Pfsense. Apparently, its a short on BSD which seemingly dropped support for the chipset used on this adapter. (AAlix?). ........so. I now run IpFire. (Linux based firewall) on my Dell laptop...and its working extremely awesome! I'm running 2 desktops, a PS3, and a couple of phones. No probs. I'm getting my full bandwidth.
