I have a Direct TV DVR Box and it has the esata plug in and I have a Sata hard drive and I want to connect it to the DVR esata plug so will this cable work for me to do that ?

It should work for the data part of the connection. Remember that you have to power the drive also.  Is the HDD an external or internal drive? If it's an internal drive, I recommend getting a dock.  Buy the cable depending on whether the dock has a SATA or an eSATA connection (i.e. eSATA to SATA for the former or eSATA to eSATA for the latter).  Make sense?
