looking for a backup power source for my 1/2 HP sump pump 750 watts 110v. Would like for the power source to auto switch from home-wall-outlet power to the inverter if the home power is not available, The process reversed when power to the home becomes available. Would the APS750 function to the requirement?

Ron, I use power inverters and this will do what you want as long as it's hooked up to something like a marine battery or two.  Then when power comes back on the batteries will get recharged by the unit.
