Why is this advertised as Thunderbolt 3?

As far as I can tell from their website, the manufacturer does not make any Thunderbolt docks. It's misleading to list this as being compatible.
USB-C is the port type that supports up to 5gb/s.
Thunderbolt 3 uses the same port but supports up to 40gb/s.

This is adding to general confusion; using the Thunderbolt name to trick people into buying this product, like so many other sellers are doing, and making it extremely difficult for anyone to find a product that actually DOES support Thunderbolt 3.

I bought this one and another like it with the two USB ports and the two USB-c (thunderbolt 3) ports and they don't work on the USB-c (thunderbolt 3) outputs.  The regular USB ports work fine.  Then I talked to a reputable non-apple certified Mac repair tech guy and he said... "Several of the devices out there like this can kill the mother board so be careful".  The I called Apple and they said they were coming up with one but it is not out yet.

After buying these I would say it is not yet perfected.  I did not ask for my money back even though they do not work because I am out of the country now an it would not be worth it.

The reality is USB-c (thunderbolt 3)  is ahead of its time and you have to wait for it to catch up. I got all new USB-c (thunderbolt 3)  hard-rives etc thinking it was better than the Apple adapters and I was wrong.  Apple provides 4 ports in the new USB-c (thunderbolt 3)  computers with no way to spit them or use a good hub...  Sad but true but it will catch up in time.  This is the price we pay for trying to be first and buying the newest stuff.  Email me if you want at gosouth (at) unseen.is if you want.
