What exactly is the female plug on the device? I want to use this for streaming 5.1 audio thru this to my HD audio receiver which has RCA and fiber optics inputs. Will this work and perform well?! Please advise:)

The female end can be used 1 of 2 ways. You can either use a 3.5mm headphone jack for analog audio or you can use the adapter that comes with this that plugs into the 3.5mm jack and allows you to connect a fiber optic audio cable to it for digital audio.
