will this work with only usb plug?  I don't have 3.5 mm plug .

I assume you are using hdmi output to tv. if you still have the video out cable to your ps3  (yellow,red,white) plug that in also and set your audio to multi out. so you still have hdmi picture and the only thing plugged into the video cable setup is your headset. works on all 8 of my ps3 consoles
