Is this compatible with Windows 7 pro and Win 8?

Since this is just a link from a phone line into the computer, it must have a program to bring phone data in to the system.  If that program is compatible with Windows 7 pro then this connector will work.  I am not familiar with Windows 8 but don't see why it won't work.  If that is more of an issue, you should seek more information.

I am using the connector on a Windows 7 computer.  I have a fax program that resides on that computer and it picks up the signal and processes the data for me.

Many computers do not have a port to plug in a phone line directly anymore.  This adapter will do that from the phone line into a USB port.

no modem card installed in my Windows 7 HOME Prem-64bit toshiba i3 laptop. just making sure this will send and receive faxes.  for now, my phone line is analog but thinking of switching to digital phone service. will it work on a digital line as well?

I can't answer the first part of the question since I bought this for a company just before I left, so was not able to test. As far as using with a true digital (VOIP) line, that is iffy - you may need an adapter. You'll have to ask your phone provider.

Is this phone jack to Ethernet?

Yes. This device allows you to communicate via a telephone line. The data leaves/enters your computer via the USB. The usual use of this modem is sending and receiving faxes. Fax software provided with operating systems is usually able to recognize and set up this device. The cable end of the modem attaches to a computer USB port. The other end accepts a "modular" telephone line cord.

Question 4

Has anyone tried to send several faxes over voip (vonage) using this device. I currently have a Rosewell (RNX-56USB) and often get the error message "The remote fax machine did not respond in time, and the call was terminated". This product appears to have more fax capability but I don't know if it will help with my issue?

won't help. There are issues with voip and faxes. If you are an occupational fax user try the free fax service from clicktofax. If you are a heavy fax user it might be worthwhile to pay the few dollars a month for the service.

Does this device support CallerID?

This is just a remote connection from the phone to a computer.  I am using a program for fax so my computer is now my fax machine.  I think it is in the programs that you are using that will make the difference as to whether you are able to still use the caller ID function of the phone line.  My faxes all come in with the phone number on the cover page if the fax sender is set up that way but the line itself doesn't have caller ID.  I hope this helps.

Is this a voice capable modem?

I do not use the Voice feature but USR says it is only Voice with the firmware flash 1.2.23 dated 7-24-12 and aftermarket voice software program. Mine from Newegg had the latest firmware already. Can be easily downloaded from USR if needed.
I only use mine for dialup service and there is no internal speaker so dialing is silent.

Is this modem usb 3.0 compatible? New laptop is 3.0 only, not backward compatible.

USB 3.0 only?  This is odd and probably not so.  The USB 3.0 standard has backward compatibility defined in its foundation, so to the best of my understanding this is not possible at all.  More than that, it has also forward compatibility that allows USB 3.0 (SS & 3.1) devices work on USB 2.0 ports.  USR doesn't refer to it in its docs.  My unit works great with USB 3.0 under Windows and Mac OS.Enter an answer to this question.
