does this game have a single player mode?

Yes, it has an amazing single player mode.  There is a story line that is somewhat interesting, but if you tire of it there is a whole open world to explore.  You can hunt animals, do medical supply runs, capture enemy bases, and much more.

Question 3

Can this game be played using an Xbox type controler on the PC Version? Or is it strictly keyboard and mouse controlled?

Yes it can.  However, what type of controller are you referring to?  An xbox 360 controller or an xbox One controller?  Also is it a wireless controller or a wired controller?  As far as I know there aren't drivers out yet for xbox one controllers.  However, I have used my xbox 360 controllers all of the time to play pc games including far cry 3.  If it is a wireless controller though, you have to make sure you buy a wireless adapter, you can buy those at newegg as well just search for xbox wireless adaptor pc.  They are pretty cheap

A wired controller is easier as you just plug it into your usb port on your pc and the driver should download automatically.

Does this come with a Steam key or is it Ubisoft drm?

Unfortunately Ubisoft.  Had it repeatedly crash during the start of the very first level until I noticed my PCI bus was clocked at 101, changed to 100 and runs fine.

Is this DVD-ROM or DLC?

It's definitely a DVD, but I believe you can register the cd key and download through ubisoft's software package.

I have a windows 8 computer with 1.88 ghz will it work?

Sure, a lot depends on your video card as well. The more higher end parts you have the higher resolution and more detail you can turn on. Worst case scenario you have to run it at lower settings but it will still "work" as you say.
