I have used it with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Window 7 Home Premium with no issues.  I have not tried it with Windows 8 but have no reason to expect that it won't work.  It is a USB device that emulates a keyboard interface.  Whatever it scans is "typed" at the cursor location.  Good luck!

Question 2

The manufacturer makes no mention of Mac compatibility. They have a video on their site where every computer shown is a Mac.Is this misleading? I am interested in the MS100-4G, but am concerned because of this lack of information. Also, they have software that can be downloaded from their site to configure settings on the device that in PC only (exe).

It does work with macs. Just plug it in and select it as a keyboard. The configuration software is windows but it can be configured by printing the Manuel and scanning barcodes for the desired settings.

Does it read small QR codes?

I'm afraid I have no idea, but I doubt it. I don't believe it can handle qr code symbology. That would also depend on the software you are using. It is really meant to convert a bar code into a string of characters that are popped into a waiting field in the software you are using - like a UPC code.

I would like a scanner to help track the inventory of books by scanning the barcode.  Will this product be the right one to track the inventory of 2,000-3,000 books?

dont buy this  get a trigger scanner.
