Is the vantech lapcool2 compatible with MacBook 13 inch with retina display?

It is powered by USB. Otherwise, there is no interface with the actual notebook. If your Mac has a USB port, it should power the fans.

Does it feel comfortable when you place it on your lap when you use a laptop? Does it fit in an average sized backpack?

For me no it hurts my legs so I use a bed table if in bed or I use a little dinner tray table and it works fine. It also depends on how heavy your laptops is I believe. Mine is not very lightweight. I hope this helps you.
