Does this card support hardware RAID or is it software RAID?

Hi Ryan,

It's software raid.  It uses the sil3132 chip, and the software that goes with the chip is called softraid 5.

If you had a motherboard with an intel northbridge, ich7r, ich9r, you could use the intel matrix manager and do softraid on any two drives.  This board tries to do it for non-intel northbridge motherboards - but the board would not work for me and I returned it - I could see each drive, boot to either one, but when I put them together in a raid volume, I could not boot to windows, or even to boot setup.

I have used intel software raid on another computer, and it uses the power of the cpu for the raid, and it worked fine.

Windows 8.10 compatalble ?

I'm sure it is but have only used this card under Linux.  Vantec's web site does list Windows 8 as a system requirement and states that the card is plug and play.
