Verbatim External Floppy Drive Model FDUSB-B2

Pros: Plugged this drive into my wife's Toshiba laptop with Vista and my laptop with XP Professional and both recognized the drive and installed the drivers without any problem. Fast writes and reads. No complaints as the little drive works like it's supposed to.

Cons: USB wire could be longer. Otherwise no other cons.

Overall Review: Newegg really is the best. As usual this drive was delivered so quickly and packaged well.

Pros: It's a floppy drive... What else can I write? It works.

Pros: If you build systems and have a problem installing SCSI or Raid drivers (to access the Hard Drive) during Windows preinstall(most laptops and modern computer systems come without legacy floppy drives) this is a must have item for your tool kit....and it's inexpensive to boot! Boot Baby Boot! Ever try Partition Magic floppies to install and prep your HDD before an OS install? It beats the Windows FDISK by more than 30 minutes! It boots every time...YEA! This unit replaces an older portable floppy drive that finally died...I'm glad it did! RIP.

Cons: The Down Side: The USB cable is about an inch and one half too short(I like to set my floppy on my lap) while using it. The Fix: I added a 3 foot USB 2.0 extension cable to fit the bill, now work is just like play.....THANK YOU NewEgg!!!!

Overall Review: My first floppy drive, in 1972 (before affordable hard drives were available to the public) was a "gigantic" 128K model that took about 2 minutes before I could read it. This 2X USB 2.0 Mitsumi mechanism is slick, instant read and almost silent! If you have trouble accessing the drive after "hot plugging" it, install and use "TweakUI for Windows XP" and tick the "A:\" box. Diagnostic head aches gone! Voila!

Pros: I can't say that I use this drive a whole lot. I have had no problems with it on a PC running Vista. I bought it just to be able to occasionally access old floppies that I have in my collection. It does read, write and boot from 1.44 M floppies and reads 720K floppies. It seems to be pretty fast (it is supposed to be 2X) and has been error free.

Cons: Reads, but will not write to 720K floppies. Brand name confusion (not really a con). Newegg sells it as Verbatim. Upon receipt, the box branded it as SmartDisk with no mention of Verbatim. A few minutes of research showed that Verbatim bought out SmartDisk. The internal drive mechanism is apparently Mitsumi.

Overall Review: I don't know why Newegg has this drive listed (only) under Apple accessories. It works just fine on a PC running Vista. Just plug it in and it works.

Pros: The drive read about 10 disks successfully.

Cons: Now the drive says every disk inserted needs to be formatted when they work just fine on other disk drives. Verbatim's tech support is pretty bad - their web-based support initiator doesn't work and their tech support hours are 10am-4pm Eastern time.

Overall Review: Must be nice to only have to work 6 hours a day. . .I would suggest trying a different brand.

Pros: This is a great tech tool that can get you around areas that a USB drive can't due to maybe an older system.

Overall Review: It's a floppy disk drive and does what it should do.

Pros: It works right out of the box. Windows 2000 and XP recognize it immediately. I bought this to get drivers loaded for my SATA hard drive controller during Windows installation.

Cons: None thus far.

Overall Review: Upon receiving it, I noticed that it was not by Verbatim. Rather, it was by SmartDisk. This was not a major concern as the drive functioned as expected. Perhaps a packaging error of Newegg?

Pros: very fast plugged right in and installed own drivers lots faster than my other desktop computer drive

Cons: short usb cord
