Yes, most all 3.0 USB devices (flash/thumb) are reverse (downward) compatible. This is my 2nd one. I broke my 1st one. Wife has as 16GB store n go as well.

I have a Verbatim 64gb flash drive that I want to use as a backup drive with Windows 7. The backup does not work and a message is displayed saying the drive is write protected. How do I turn off write protect?

I don't believe the Flash Drive has a write protect switch or feature. I use mine with Mac OS so I am not sure if there is something you need to do first to enable backups to the Flash Drive. Can you format the flash drive (FAT or FAT32 or NTFS)? Can you store files to it that are just a copy (drag and drop)? If you can format / copy then there is either something you need to do to 'prepare' the flash drive for backups or Windows may not allow backups to this type of storage device (seems sort of strange though). You may need to ask someone with more windows backup experience.
