Can I scan an image that is 40" X 40" and edit them together or does it have to be able to fit inside a feeder?

The Vupoint Solutions scans from the bottom with a long roller to help guide it straight. It works on maps, books and other documents. If you have the software that can put the images together, it should work.

dose the scanner need the paper port download to work? like do you scan it and it automatically go to a cite and then you download from the cite ? or dose it automatically scan to our computer or do you have to dock it?

No,scanner works by its' self. Paper Port is a file management tool.
