Wacom MTE450 5.8" x 3.7" Active Area USB Bamboo Pen Tablet- Black finish

Pros: Tracks very accurately, included software works fine in Windows XP. Once I got wacom-tools installed in Ubuntu 8.10 it works fine there too. Like the reversible stylus for erasing in drawing programs.

Cons: Works perfectly except when using the GIMP image editor in Windows, at which point it stutters and skips badly when drawing lines. Not sure why it's only with that program (it's fine in Linux). Also, no Linux support from the manufacturer (but it works fine with wacom-tools)

Overall Review: I got this for my eeePC 901 for a portable way to draw and mark documents, and I am very happy with it.

Pros: Great size for portability. Works well with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom. Works right out of the box without drivers. Works even better with drivers installed. Great device if you don't want to take the plunge into a larger device. If you program the keys on the tablet and pen you can almost perform all necessary editing functions without touching the keyboard.

Cons: Can't think of much, for the price it works better than the competition. OK..its black and smudges easily. No clip to hold the pen on the board. Pen resolution is a bit coarse for pixel by pixel editing. To be honest this is just splitting hairs. Most users will never need finer than the 2500 lines per inch.

Overall Review: Originally purchased this when I decided to get back into photography. Worked really well on my dual monitor set up (advice to rater: install the Wacom drivers and tell it to span multiple monitors). Recently I purchased a tablet with bigger area for my main workstation, but still use this one for quick Lightroom editing with my laptop for on site shoots and proof sets.

Pros: Very solidly build, versatile and configurable. I like mapping the buttons to keystrokes for something like ctrl+z or ctrl+alt+z for work in photoshop, makes trips to the keyboard almost unnecessary. Very stylish, black with blue LED backlit buttons matches everything else on my desktop. Oh yeah, and its cheap.

Cons: I find the buttons on the pen a bit difficult to use. It seems my fingers are never lined up with them properly. Probably just something I'll have to get used to and it's not that big of an inconvenience.

Overall Review: I read some review of this elsewhere where it was said that the base the pen rests in is too light, you can unscrew the top off of it and add weight to your hearts content, I poured in a few table spoons of portland cement and put the lid back on, center of gravity problem resolved.

Pros: Small footprint on your desk. Allows a degree of sensitivity when used with certain applications (Photoshop, Illustrator) that you CANNOT get with a mouse. Great price. This model has a detachable (and therefor replaceable) USB cable, something my old Graphire did not have. Active surface has a good "feel".

Cons: I accidentally press the small buttons on the pen, to avoid doing so I have to make sure the pen is rotated so that my fingers are away from the buttons, but then when I need to use the buttons I have to rotate it back. Also, the default button setting is a bit awkward. What would be the right mouse button is hard for me to press so I end up using the mouse to right-click.

Overall Review: Overall, this is an excellent entry level tablet. Before this one I had the Graphire, I thought it was great until a cat knocked over a glass of soda and it was ruined. This tablet is much better: cheaper, smaller, looks better, has a better feel, has a detachable USB cable, has more programmable buttons. If you are thinking of getting a tablet but have your doubts because of your monitor setup, don't worry! I've used this tiny tablet with multiple setups... dual monitors.. 20" + 15"... 20" + 19" wide screen.. it's fine.

Pros: I have to admit that the "small" active area scared me at first, but after playing with it for even 5 minutes you realize it's all you need and works wonders! The 4 customizable function keys on tablet itself help make accessing different programs or commands a breeze.

Cons: None that I have run across!

Overall Review: For a first time tablet owner the included CD contains a tutorial to show you all the different functions of the tablet and pen, also shows you how to customize the buttons!

Pros: This is my first experience with a tablet, and I am impressed. Drivers are what ALL drivers should be: simple, to the point, and they just work. Flawlessly. Im on XP, cant say for Vista.

Cons: It doesnt work with GIMP too well, not at all on Windows. I cant hold that against Wacom, tho. Zoom setting is too drastic in Flash. Still, not sure whos fault that is.

Overall Review: As a first tablet, you wont be disappointed. If you need one for more than professional reasons, the surface area may be a bit crowded. Just opening Photoshop and drawing like its paper. Priceless.

Pros: Absoulte mode in that the tablet matches your screen. This is much better than relative where you have to keep on clicking and dragging. 2) Looks great, nice shortcut keys, writing surface is very smooth. 3) Cheap for what it dies

Cons: Not wireless, and takes a bit of space so need some area.

Overall Review: I use this priomarily as a mice alternative for my RSI. Since I am left handed it is great since there are so few lecft handed alternative. I have about 6 differet inuput devices,encluding a handless smartnav and MS trackball. Beside space issue, this is surpassed only by the MS Trackball that you cannot buy anymore

Pros: I'll flat-out say: I suck at art. However, this is an amazing device, and I think the future for computing. I got used to it fast. I only spent an hour with this thing, and I've got to say, this is the closest feel to an actual pencil I have ever felt on any input device. This will be invaluable for whenever I use Netmeeting (plus the occasional guy I sucker into playing online Pictionary against me)

Cons: None!

Overall Review: Paint programs, anything that requires exact mouse positioning like Yahoo Graffiti :p, and other things thrive with this product. I haven't tried other games with mouse mode yet. Even so, this thing is just so fun to use.
