There is a 5v power port at one end. Is the port functional, and if so, what is the tip size and possible recommended power supply? I ask this because my Lenovo Thinkpad 8 doesn't have enough juice to run both a keyboard, mouse and USB stick at the same time.

Yes its functional, but not included.  The size is the standard 5v type, such as StarTech USB2TYPEH (just plug this into a AC>USB transformer, like for your cell hpone).  However, I think you have different problems if your laptop won't power an external keyboard, mouse, and USB flash drive.....that's well within the spec.

Can this be plugged into a desktop hard drive to make it a NAS?

No, you need the drivers to make this functional. It's designed for a PC or laptop with an operating system.

Does this device give usb3 connection thru ethernet connection to computer?

Accepted Answer

This device provides gigabit ethernet through a USB 3 port. It does not provide USB functionality over an ethernet network if that is your question.
