What operating system is this device powered by? What version is that operating system? (Ex. Some Linux 3.17.4 or Windows Server 2008)

The latest firmware, 4.x, is Debian wheezy set for 64K pages of memory.

Question 2

I'm new to RAID setups, can you take this device and make it 2 different "drives" with each one mirroring it's mate? (Disks 1&2 are mirrored to be seen as drive H and disks 2&3 are mirrored to be drive I) in order to use one device for backing up 2 different internal drives?

You can, but the better way is to set it up using what call Raid 1+0, which will give the same effect but it is call striping and mirroring  you get the 1 large drive of stripping with the redundancy of the 2 drive stripe with a mirror in the background.

It provides better performance than Raid 5, but  you lose a lot of space, because you will only have 6TB usable in 1+0 instead of 9TB in raid 5.  there is always a trade off.

Question 3

Does this unit support High availability or failover between two of these  units? say if two were setup and one failed where the other unit takes over like a SAN for instance ubuntu linux with heartbeat and drbd, or openfiler with similar packages? If so does it really work? and is it easy to setup ?
