The legendary Weber kettle with its classic profile has become synonymous with outdoor cooking and backyard fun. The 22.5" One-Touch Silver charcoal grill delivers exceptional results every time.
Pros: works like a champ. Should last as long as my other one did: 12 years.
Cons: Doesn't catch the ashes like my old one, but it cost a lot cheaper.
Overall Review: Always a Weber grill, don't buy the cheap ones, and replace it every year.
Pros: *Can often be found for cheap or free on Craigslist or by dumpster diving
*Very flexible, can be used for direct heat, indirect heat, and can also double as a smoker
*Durable, easy to assemble
*Classic good looks
*The satisfaction of building a fire and cooking on it.
*The one-touch system helps with cleaning and doubles as a vent.
Cons: *The ash collector plate is terrible, ash will go everywhere with the slightest gust of wind. I swapped mine for a 9 inch round disposable aluminum casserole dish, that works much better, doesn't let the ash be blown around as much. The collector on the Gold model is even better yet.
*The cooking grates are not very nice on the Silver model. The Gold has an upgraded grate that has flip up sides, so you can add charcoal without having to remove the grate. The upgraded grates also seem to be built slightly heavier, and will probably take longer to wear out.
*The wheels are held in place by a cap that you hammer in place. These caps will fall off at some point in time, it's just a matter of when. Luckily, just about every replacement part for these grills comes with the caps as an added convenience.
Overall Review: *The ash collector and the grates make the Gold a better value, unless you got your Silver for free or near to it (as did I). If you were to buy a Silver and upgrade the grates, you would spend almost as much as just getting the Gold, and you wouldn't have to worry about jury-rigging a better ash collector.
