What's the difference between this and the Blue SSD?

Blue has 3D nand I believe, so it's a bit faster but green is more power efficient.

Is this compatible with desktops or is it purely for laptops?

Every 2.5" SATA SSD will function in a SATA compliant computer. Since all SATA connections are the same, it will work in both desktops and laptops alike. However, if your desktop case doesn't have a place to mount 2.5" SSDs, you will need to invest in a mounting bracket to adapt a 3.5" or 5.25" slot to mount a 2.5" drive.
