This item will keep your Video Card cool BUT! It is a pain in the rear to install. The original cooler came with 2 separate tubes labeled a & b that had to be mixed together for the thermal glue for the heatsinks and the cure time was 24 hours. The version I got on the other hand came with a single tube and it set in a few minutes.

Installing the cooler to your card is going to be the pain because if you mess up and forget to use the plastic washers you will brick your card like I did. I did try a second time with another card and got it working just keep in mind that the plastic washers are essential. There will be 8 washers 4 white 4 black they are all the same height regardless of what the instructions tell you.

As far as crossfire with 2 cards that have these installed it can be done but the card will take up 2 1/2 slots so you might have to get a different x-fire bridge for the 7000 series cards. For the r7 & r9 series of cards x-fire is done without a bridge and is done internally through the PCI-E bus.

Hope all this info helps. Also as a side note you'll want to wipe off the pre applied thermal paste because they put too much on the cooler. Be sure to get a top of the line thermal paste as cheap thermal paste will not last long in high temp situations. I had to change my thermal paste 3 different times before I found a brand that worked and lasted (Arctic Silver Ceramique 2)

How many slots does this take up when attached to the card? Also What thermal compound would someone suggest for the VRM heatsinks? (I was thinking some Arctic Silver AATA-5g)

Lastly what would someone suggest for the thermal paste on the actual GPU die? I was thinking some Antec formula 7 thermal compound.

It's large enough that you will be unable to have it in crossfire safely unless the card with the Accelero is on the bottom. My board is an Asus Z87 PRO.

That Arctic Silver AATA-5g will work great IF you are absolutely sure you never want to remove the heatsinks. My Accelero came with "adhesive" that holds the heatsink on but does not permanently fuse it to the chip, so you can remove it in the future.

I think all that matters with thermal compound is you put on the right amount. Not too much, not too little. That will have a far greater impact on performance than the particular formula.

For the gtx 780 ti dual classified, would this fan keep that card cooler than the fan it comes with? How noticeable do you think it would be?

I had the stock cooler with 1 fan, which kept my card cool, but when it warmed up it was very loud.  This cooler was a little like putting together a model car with all the pieces, but I followed the instructions and managed to finish the install after about an hour+.  Now if I turn up the fans to full speed I can barley hear it.  And it seems to me to do at least as good as the stock.  It is defiantly cooler running at 50% fan speed than the stock 50% fan speed.
If I had to pick a number I would say it is roughly 1.5 times better than my stock at keeping cool, and about 5 times quieter.

I HAVE A VISIONTEK HD7970 WILL THIS COOLER WORK FOR IT?

Sure will, the difference is the bracket and copper contact that is protruded from the heatsink to make contact with the chip for the 79XX series. There are memory/VRAM sinks packaged for all possibilities. Make sure you clean the sinks well before adhering the thermal tape to ensure it sticks and you don't have a stray heatsink roaming around your tower.

Can the VRM and RAM heatsinks be removed after the thermal glue is applied?

Yes they can be removed; however, the heat transfer is poor at best after getting this my card crashed when playing games. I corrected this by calling the MFG and getting a replacement HS & Fan

Will the heat spreader on the 7950 xfx tdkc be able to left in place and used with this?

No the complete oem cooling system will be removed and it will be a 1 and 1/2 inches longer then the oem cooler.

Any idea where to get a set of replacement screws / washers for this thing?

If you go to their website (www. arctic. ac) and look up the cooler's product page you'll find a "spare parts" tab. You'll want the "Accelero Xtreme 7970 - Screw Set" and it's about 3 dollars.

Would this fit a XFX AMD Radeon HD 7850 Double D? I think it might but I am not for certain.

It will fit and work, but the cheaper gelid is a better product.  My cards run 10c cooler on the gelid compared to the artic.

Unfortunately, I think you would be very disappointed if you were to buy this for a 290.
