Question 1

Gives Blue Screen of Death whenever connected to my XP sp3 laptop. j5create customer support said to disk defrag and run Ccleaner which didn't help.  Anyone had the same problem?

I'm sorry, I can't recreate your problem because I have recently upgraded all my computers to Win 7 Home and Ultimate.  Sounds like a driver issue to me though. Not just the worm switch but either your video, Windows update, sound, and such.  If you have an older system, the USB might not be compatible with the worm.  Try booting your computer to safe mode and then using it.  No guarantees though...

Can I use this cable to install programs from the optical drive on a W7 machine to a W8.1 machine without an optical drive?

Yes, with making a Windows COPY of the optical disc in an ISO file/s or other ISO types, you can copy A file to even a DISCless Windows computer. [An [optical] DISC, and an [internal, external, flash, card, NS] DRIVE.] Programs like Nero offer an ISO file, and an NRG file I think (most burners have their own type of file, but you would probably always want an ISO file); there are free burners on the net too that offer the ability of ISO files. It's a good strategy to make ISO's of every installer disc quickly, for if the optical disc becomes unreadable, the ISO will exist, and may be copied to Flash/Card/External/NS drives. ISO's are good for music, videos, photos and data as a backup, since the data is usually highly compressed. Most installer optical discs come with many files, which is a big problem copying them to another computer, however there is a trick: use a directory/folder to copy them [directories include all sub files, and their sub files], or use a utility to make all files into a single file. However the J5 only copies single files.. but there is a solution their too, use an alternate IOGear GUN202WE.. which costs a little more, also available at NewEgg. I own both types, but because of directory/folder copying, I prefer the IOGear. Use the IOGear, if you have it, or maybe the J5, trying to copy the whole install disc via ISO to the 2nd computer; then on the 2nd computer run the AUTORUN.EXE file which initiates installation, or the SETUP.EXE or choose what you want; alternately copy the ISO in only the pieces you need to the 2nd computer. With the J5/IOGear, you can copy ISO/files to another discless computer; copy a SINGLE J5 file, or a WHOLE IOGear directory/folder. I highly recommend the J5, because it's easy to duplicate IT'S installers, and to COPY files, on Windows 7 to XP, though I've Vista/8/98SE etc. machines. The J5/IOGear is the easiest way to copy files on Windows computers.  [Just got the IOGear though, and haven't tested it.]

Can the wormhole switch be used in conjunction with a manually operated switch that allows two computers to share a single monitor. For example, can I type something in Notepad and send it to another computer, then use my monitor switch to view it on that computer?

Yes you should be able to do what you are attempting. Type the text in Notepad and then copy the saved document or text. Switch your monitor to the other computer and then paste the text. Assuming you have the wormhole switch connected to both machines.

Is there a feature Wormhole has that free the "Microsoft Garage Mouse without Borders" utility by Microsoft does not accomplish?  I use it daily between work and personal computer when I work from home.  It allows sharing of keyboard, mouse, clipboard and drag & drop capability.  Will also do up to four computers.
