Question 1

I've never owned a pair like these.  With the open back design, does that mean that my game sounds and chat will leak out into the room around me?  I game at night in an office near family bedrooms, can't keep the rest of the family awake.

Someone may hear the game "leaking" if he was standing next to you in the office but the leak is definitely not louder than your chatter. I am in the same situation as you: Small office with bedrooms nearby. The game leaking through the headphones is definitely not a problem. You will be fine. Me screaming and pounding the table is my problem lol.

P.S. Don't forget, like I did, that there is a volume control on the side. For 2 days I couldn't figure out why my sound was low. Thought I was gonna have to send them back lol. Also, this is a great headset but for the money I think the PC 310's work just as well as far as sound and mic quality. Hope this helps.

How would you say the mic quality is? I'm very worried about background noise being picked up.

Mic quality is pretty good. I use ventrillo and team speak and no one has ever said it picks up background noise. I guess if you leave your mic open it may. I use push to talk so I really don't know for sure. However, I think every mic will pick up background noises if they are close to the mic or loud. I don't think you will be disappointed with this headset. I love them actually. Sound is stellar.

Is the mic detachable?

No it is not, it does fold up though so it is out of the way when not in use. It is a fantastic headset though. Very well made, great warranty.

Can the audio cable be removed/replaced?

Sadly no. While the cable is braided, durable, and has a decent length without being too long, it is permanently attached as show in the picture of the headset. I tried giving my pair a good tug and nothing budged.

Question 5

I know Sennheiser is known for making quality products and great sound quality, but I'm really worried about the mic. The headphones I have leak sound to the mic, so I can't have any background noise (game noise, Youtube, VoIP) without it echoing through the mic into VoIP.

Basically how is the mic quality, and is there and leaking? Thank you.

I have never had any leakage.  The only thing that comes through the Mic is my voice or any really loud sounds in the room, I've never had an echo of what's playing through the headphones, and honestly most of the time not even room sounds.

The Mic is of good quality for a headset, and is better than 80% of headset mics, though it is still a headset Mic and won't compete with standalone hobbyist mics for pure clarity and sound quality.  Use it for Skype or video game chats or just general talking and whatnot and you'll never have a complaint, but don't use it for a podcasts or streaming/shoutcasting.

Should I buy a headphone amplifier for these? I have no sound card but a pretty good motherboard. thanks

These headphones get plenty loud enough as is, I run through a high end motherboard as well, not a separate sound card.  I can't speak to your specific setup, but you should be fine without an amplifier.  Remember, to get the best sound quality and volume on any system, you should usually keep the source and computer at a high volume (unless you start to cause clipping) and do the volume adjustments as close to your ears (in this case at the headset) as possible.

Does this wire tangle up easily and become stiff like a lot of other headsets?

Hi!  This wire is slightly thicker and has a braided texture, so in my experience it doesn't tangle or curl up like the normal rubbery earbud or headphone cables.  However, it can still get trapped in the gaps of my chairs roller wheels, so I'd keep it off the floor.  The cable is loooooong, but it does have a built in Velcro strap that I use to bind up one end so the cable is only as long as I need.

No.  This is considered a stereo headset.

To my knowledge, the 363d is Sennheiser's surround gaming headset.  Personally I found the g4me one to be more comfortable and prefer its sound, but that all depends on your ears.

For surround headsets, I do suggest some research.  They aren't all made the same way.  While marketing claims to do Dolby surround on just two speakers, it still sounded like stereo to me.  You may wish to find a headset that actually has multiple speakers in each cup.

Is this the newer version with a detachable cord, and for gaming and some music would the zeros be better?

The cord is not detachable. Short answer on game zero to be better for gaming: yes, but it depends.

Here's the long answer. These are open headsets and tend to be better for music. Gaming headsets tend to be closed type so you can focus on the attention to the absence of outside noises. They're really good sounding and accurate, but I consider these a more "general" use than the closed ones. I am biased toward open designs, but they "leak" sound. I am often needed around my home so I need some situational awareness. I wish I had enough peace and quiet to for the closed ones...

Question 10

Is this headset compatible with the PS4?

I dont think so.  The connections are two 3.5 MM audio jacks.  They go into the Audio / Mic on the PC ports.  Unless the PS4 has these specific ports I dont think this would work.  Hope this helps.
