Does this allow you to attach an external Firewire drive to a USB 3 port without destroying your computer?

I have used the previous version of this external dock and this one (since it was released) and have had zero problems. This is the most solid drive dock I have ever used. It is a really handy piece of equipment. I use it to do all my critical drive cloning. I work mostly on Mac, but Windows hasn't given me any problems with it either.

I have a LaCie Biggest S2S 5TB RAID that has an eSATA output cable. My iMac only has USB, firewire and Thunderbolt inputs. Is this the device I need to use this RAID with my iMac? If not can you suggest a product? Thank you!

No, this does not convert signals between port types. You need a Thunderbolt to eSata adaptor, or a USB to eSata adaptor.
