I have an 6 year old Dell Inspiron 545 64K desktop running Windows 7. It has 4 rear and 2 front USB 2 ports.
I want to upgrade the USB 2 ports to USB 3.
The desktop is still as received from Dell with no other hardware installed.
Will this do it/What do I need?

I'm not positive, but I don't believe that the BIOS versions that shipped 6 years ago supported USB 3.  I'd double check to see if a newer BIOS version for your chipset is available from Dell and will support USB 3 before you decide.  Reflashing the BIOS is not hard on Dell boxes, but be careful.  If you screw it up, the box is dead 9 out of 10 times.
