XIC PE4165-4IL is a high performance, low dielectric loss factor interface conversion card. It connects NVMe SSD or PCIe connectors via SlimSAS (SFF-8654) 74pin connector, supports up to 4 PCIe devices or NVMe SSDs. The bandwidth of the card is the bandwidth that the PCIe slot of the motherboard can support.

The Motherboard with CPU and BIOS needs to support bifurcation to ensure PCIe x16 link width to bifurcate two x8 link width or four x4 link width for NVMe SSD, Otherwise this card can only support PCIe link width of one device.

The eShinreal PCIe 4.0 x16 to dual SlimSAS SFF-8654 8i adapter connects up to four PCIe devices or NVMe SSDs to a compatible motherboard, making it suitable for storage-focused workstations and servers with CPU and BIOS support for PCIe bifurcation.

    Recommended For

    • Server and homelab builders adding multiple U.2 NVMe drives for storage pools, databases, or other storage-heavy workloads, with a PCIe x16 slot and motherboard/CPU/BIOS that support bifurcation.
    • Workstation builders who need to connect U.2 NVMe drives through SlimSAS cabling while keeping internal PCIe slots available for other cards.
    • Small-form-factor or rack-system builders who need a low-profile bracket and want to route PCIe connections over SlimSAS cables rather than use a conventional riser.
    • PC builders repurposing a PCIe x16 slot for multiple direct-attached NVMe devices who are comfortable checking lane bifurcation and slot-sharing settings in the motherboard manual and BIOS.

    Real-World Use Scenarios

    • A homelab or storage-server builder can use a spare PCIe x16 slot to add U.2 NVMe drives for a larger storage pool; when the CPU, motherboard, and BIOS support the required bifurcation, the drives can appear as separate devices rather than as a hardware RAID volume.
    • Someone adding U.2 NVMe storage to a server or workstation can route PCIe from the adapter through SlimSAS cables to compatible drives or a drive enclosure. The practical benefit is adding storage through a PCIe slot, though the drives and cables need compatible interfaces and the drives need appropriate power.
    • A workstation user handling large projects or datasets can dedicate connected NVMe drives to working files or scratch space, keeping that storage separate from the system drive. The actual benefit depends on the drives, workload, and available PCIe lanes.
    • A builder setting up a multi-drive software-managed storage pool can use the adapter to expose compatible NVMe drives as individual devices, then configure the pool in their operating system. The adapter itself does not provide RAID; the drives must first be detected by the system.
    • A user installing the card to connect several drives should check the motherboard and CPU bifurcation settings before troubleshooting the SSDs. Without compatible lane splitting and configuration, fewer drives than expected—or only one—may be recognized.
