Question 1

stupid question.  My receiver doesnt have a usb connection, can i plug into my power strip?  Is there any reason why i need to have the usb plugged into the receiver?

I had the same problem. I used a USB power adapter I had laying around from one of my many cell phones. it is a little power block that plugs into a standard wall outlet and has a USB plug (female socket) on it. Yamaha should just supply this for folks that have older model receivers. Note: I standard cell phone power adapter with a fixed cord will not work as it has the wrong male end.

My receiver does have a USB connection on the front of the unit. The newer models have one on the rear as well. Hope this helps.

I've got a Sony Amp, will this work on it if I plug it in to a Digital Coaxial Connection?

This device is USB powered and plugs into an open digital coaxial input. There's nothing special about it requiring that it connects to just Yamaha amps. It is broadcast as a standard bluetooth device (default name: YBA-11) so it should have no problem operating on any other amp with similar connectivity.

will this connect to more then one speaker of a different brand and play music at the same time? I am looking to find a product that will link sever different BT speakers and play them all at once from one device?

English is a beautiful language.  I have no idea what you are asking, but this device has digital coaxial out, so you need a receiver to decode the signal.
This is not an amplifier, just a bluetooth sync device, it will not drive speakers.

how many devices can you have paired to this device at one time? if more than one does it allow seamless changing between the devices? say two separate phones

You can have many devices paired, but only one connected at a time.  Don't confuse being paired with being connected.  I have three phones and a tablet paired with mine, but only one at a time can be connected.

Would you be able to use this to connect with bluetooth headphones when watching tv or listening to music?

No, this only provides a Bluetooth input source for the receiver, not an output.

will this item work with the yht-495bl system?

The yht-495bl has 2 coaxial digital inputs so it is compatible, but the yht-495bl doesn't have a USB port. You'll have to power the device with a USB to A/C wall adapter.

Should the blue light stay on when working?

Yes, the blue light lets you know it's connected.  One thing I experienced, though, is that it will stay on after I turn off my stereo and put my macbook to sleep.  The way I get it to turn off is by turning off bluetooth on my macbook.

Question 8

I have a yamaha Reciever  (rx-v373) and want to be able to control it with my phone.  IE volume and HDM1 Imput.
I know that I can send music with this device but will it allow other functions  as mentioned above?
Have not been able to find any APPs to control it.

No this is just used as an audio input to the receiver from your phone.
