i have a fx-6300. will this be good enough to cool it even when overclocked?

Yes, this is a fantastic heat sink. Arctic silver grease and plenty of case ventilation and there will be no worries of overheating. Just be sure to keep the inner case temp down.

Will this fit on an AM3+ socket?

i do not know if it will fit amd, i used it on 1155 Intel sandy bridge & Ivy bridge-just cleared the memory, whisper quiet, been running 2 years on sandy bridge, 1 year on ivy bridge--never shut off. Go to Zalman website, they should list the specs. My guess is, yeah...it will fit the socket..not sure about the rest of theboard configuration. With me....was also concerned about the height of the case....used a micro atx board, so clearance for a cooler was an issue. This is a low profile cpu cooler. Pretty certain that zalman lists which coolers  fit what socketys on their website.
