Great gaming machine 8/29/2016 1:55:15 PM

Pros: Quiet - Can't hear it even running full load.
Cooling - Well designed, as I haven't seen CPU or GPU temps over 75C with room temp at 22C.
Compact - Fits right under the TV.
Powerful - Runs games at 1080P 60 fps with settings between medium and high, depending on the game.
Infrared Receiver - Didn't even realize it had this. Seems to work with Windows Media Center remotes.
Drive Support - Installed a 500 GB SSD and a 1 TB mechanical for backup

Cons: Thumbscrews are a bit hard to get back in. The holes don't line up well so it takes some gentle persuasion to get them both started without stripping out.

Overall Review: Ran a baseline of 34 fps on Heaven at 1080P on max settings. After bumping the core and memory up using Afterburner I was getting 39.5 fps. Tried to get 40 fps but the GPU memory couldn't handle it. Overclocking the memory made the biggest difference in fps. Temps only went up 2 degrees with the overclock. Haven't seen any issues yet with the 2 core processor being a bottleneck. I suppose it might get a few fps higher with a better processor, not sure. I generally don't see processor usage over 60-70% during games.

Would make a great HTPC with the included infrared receiver. If Zotac keeps the same physical form factor and comes out with a newer/better model then I'll probably get the newer one for gaming and use the EN970 for a dedicated HTPC.

In the past I enjoyed building computers. Selecting a case, components, etc. These Zbox machines are great though. I love the mini form factor, and as of now you just can't build a machine this small AND powerful.

When it works, it works well. 7/31/2016 11:22:37 AM

Pros: Very powerful. More powerful than a MythTV front end ever needs. But since Myth works best with Nvidia graphics I wanted to get a small computer with Nvidia. I found that Small Form Factor machines with Nvidia graphics are scarce so I settled on this one.

Cons: I've had to RMA two of these - one to Newegg and one to Zotac. After a period of time (1 week for one and 5 weeks for the other) the computer refused to power up. After receiving the units, Newegg and Zotac both said that, sure enough, the units were defective. I'm now on my third one direct from Zotac. We'll see how this one behaves.

Overall Review: While both Newegg and Zotac were moderately prompt in returning to me a new unit I was not ever informed of the root cause of the issue even though I had asked. Knowing what I know now I doubt that I would recommend one of these.

Great, quiet, light machine for heavy graphic gaming 6/14/2016 4:47:41 PM

Pros: I own this product for 5 months so far. like it very much.
Price - Best combo price with SSD and RAM in +$200 in other vendors.
Quiet - Extremely Quiet, I can only hear my sleep mode MacBook pro next to it.
Graphics - Excellent graphic with GTX960, heavy duty, MSAA, texture, reflection, shadows etc.
Light - small (lunch box size) light (2 cans of Mtn. Dew ) Easy to carry or travel
Eco - 180W, laptop CPU, low power consumption in web browsing. Macbook = 90W , desktop = 450~700W
4 HDMI port - support 4 HD screens. Becomes your great TV box 4 years later.

Cons: Laptop CPU - Generation 5, Category 2. (intel i-5200U) 2 core simulate 4 threads. A bit slow for heavy CPU gaming.
RAM and Disk - it's not a real Cons, but remember to buy your RAM (laptop 204 pins) and Disk (2.5")
And google how to install it.

Overall Review: It can cover all the games and make you super happy. here are the games I run in high graphic setup:
Dota2, War thunder, Company of Heros 2, GTA4, GTA5, Ghost recon online.
However, GTA5's engine is pretty bad (compare to Ubisoft-snowflake, Cryteck- CryEngine)
So, pretty lag in the beginning of GTA Online (CPU clock rate too low, thread pool too small )
I speed it up with Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility, After running 1-2hours it will become pretty smooth.
So if you want to run GTA online a lot, I will suggest you buy EN980, Zotac steam box, or Alienware product)
Those products come with better CPU.
In general, if you play fancy graphic and well-tuned 3D engine games like:
LOL, Diablo3, Overwatch, WOW, Dota2, Division, COH2, etc. This is the best choice for "high/ very high" graphic.

If you like to play 2 games at the same time (League of legend + heart stone + music + streaming),
Or some AAA gam with untuned 3D engine (AC:Unity, Fallout 4, GTA Online)
You should go for Zotac EN980, Zotac steam box, or Alienware product.

Robust but watch the temps 10/15/2015 9:39:48 PM

Pros: This thing is small, highly versatile, and looks great too. I primarily have it set up for use as a portable gaming PC and it handles just about anything I throw at it pretty reasonably. (Mostly LAN games like Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, League of Legends, etc.)

Cons: Heat...this thing gets hot! I suppose technically it stays within safe temps but it gets way too hot for my liking. Typically around idle the CPU can clock up to around 40C, while the GPU sits around 45C, but under light to moderate loads things heat up quickly past 60C and can clip around 90C (depending on room temps of course) on full load. I run a typical HDD in my setup and that sits around 50C - 53C which is borderline debilitating! If you're running a SSD I'm sure temps are definitely not as much of an issue, but for those looking to use a typical HDD setup may want to run a laptop fan or similar under moderate to heavy use.

Overall Review: Overall the small form factor and the surprising gaming performance makes this thing pretty awesome. And I do like the fact that you can run a RAID setup for even faster storage performance if you need. The temps it runs depends on the user if it's within reason, but I found that simply running a laptop cooler makes the box run significantly cooler.

In my packaging, I never received a USB containing drivers and having the DVD is kinda pointless with this setup (and I don't own a portable disc drive) but not too much of an issue as you can always download the drivers onto a USB and load them in yourself.

I also found that after installing Windows using Legacy OS boot, then updating the BIOS made it unable to read from my HDD, however reinstalling Windows after updating the BIOS made the HDD readable again. I'm using older HDDs so I had to manually set it to Legacy OS after the initial setup and updating the BIOS

Great mini PC, great delivery service! 10/5/2015 9:06:24 PM

Pros: Bought this machine for my brother who needed a computer for college but didn’t really have the space for a full tower (dorms). I originally stumbled on this when browsing through the TwitchCon store but they were out of stock at the time so I ended up purchasing it here. Yes he could have gotten a laptop but honestly laptop screens and keyboards are just not as nice as a desktop setup.

Cons: At this price point I wish that memory and storage would be included but I guess it’s not that big of a deal since I usually swap out the included RAM/HDD with something better.

Overall Review: The card reader was a nice touch. I’m not sure how much use he will get out of it but at least for me it seems that I never have one or have lost mine whenever I need one…

The newegg delivery driver really impressed me and boosted my review to full 5 eggs. Originally got lost (gps always sends people to the wrong place for my address), called me and stayed on the line to make sure he was at the right place, and even helped hide the package in a safe spot since nobody was home. Since many times delivery drivers give up and just fail to deliver or mark an item as delivered when I never received anything, this deserved a mention.
