Question 1

I don't see any mention of compatibility with Windows 10 (64bits), could someone please confirm? I returned my Asus USB AC adapter for this reason.

Hello, 
I have this Adapter for about a year now.  It continues to function even with windows 10.  I previously had windows 7 and upgraded to windows 10.  The device is fully compatible.

It might work with specific types of linux out of the box, but when I built my SteamOS (based on Debian) I had to compile them.  See here:

Don't know....Works well with PC running Windows 8.

Can I use this on a machine that only has USB 2.0 ports?

Yes, USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.  The only problem would be if you were to get wireless speeds of over ~480 Mbps, you will not be able to use the full speed since USB 2.0 maxes out at ~480 Mbps.  This is probably not a concern though.
