Is there fan noise? If so, how loud?

It's hard to tell if there's a fan inside or not. There are cooling vents on the side but I can't hear a fan inside. It may be controlled by the CPU but I've been running some large downloads near capacity and have the software (virus etc.) enable and I don't hear anything. This is the second one I've owned the USG50 was the first, very happy with it. Hope that helps.

is this the device I would need to run from my cable modem to my network switch to be able to control bandwidth usage and filter packets and do port forwarding and such?

The "1 Year AV, IDP, Content Filtering and AntiSpam Included" is the subscription? By included does that mean 1 year has been paid for or do we actually have to pay for that as well? Or we have to pay for subscription after the one year?

Question 3

This item appears to be a little more expensive than the Sonicwall brand.  What I need to know is will this be a firewall / router that can be used for a couple of Mac servers ??  If this works in my application I can then turn off the firewalls inside the server software.  My Mac server has gotten bogged down with cache and IPV6 addresses and other correspondence that have completely shut down some of my servers services including the site being down for a few days.  I shut down the server and powered it up again.  The site was back up but several services still won't launch.  I need a good firewall before I go back to trouble shooting my servers.

Sure, you can plug your Mac Servers into the network protected by this device and they'll do fine.  With the IDP, Firewall and Content filtering configured, this device does a nice job of security.  A proponent of multi-level protection, I always recommend that each server / device within the network stand alone and have its own firewall and AV protection.  I'm not sure what you said is the root cause of your Mac Server issues but you won't go wrong protecting your network with this device.  As for IPV6, nothing I use uses it so I just disable it to keep things simpler (and will keep it that way until such time as there is a reason to enable it).
