4 out of 5 eggsMassive heat Sync

Pros: If it fit I'm sure this would have done a great job cooling the CPU.

Cons: Doesn't fit if your RAM has it's own heat sync, You will need std height or low profile ram to use this heat sync. I had to return the cooler due to my ram.

Overall Review: You need a large case for sure. This is massive.

5 out of 5 eggsHelpful Info

Pros: It seems as if people are rating this product extremely low, not because of performance, but compatibility issues. Noctua has a detailed list of compatible ram and a CAD drawing.

Compatibility list - http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=compatibility_ram_gen&products_id=34&lng=en#DDR3_G.Skill

Dimensions - http://www.noctua.at/main.php?show=faqs_single&faqs_id=44

From what I've read, this is an amazing cooling option. I plan on ordering this product as soon as there are some i7 3930k in stock!

Cons: Not an owner.

Overall Review: Hopefully this will help with some of your concerns regarding size.

5 out of 5 eggsGet low profile ram

Pros: Extremely quiet, keeps the cpu (3930k) relatively cool. No worries about leaky water cooling.

Cons: Noctua needs to explain to people that they need RAM with small heat spreaders.

Overall Review: PLAN AHEAD!! Get ram with a low profile heat spreader! I cant stress this enough. Do not just buy things assuming they will fit, do your research. Any (official) review of this heatsink explains you will need low profile ram heatspreaders.

5 out of 5 eggsHuge RAM heatspreaders are ridiculous

Pros: The first reviewer of this cooler claimed that it does not fit an ASUS Sabertooth X79. It does, but the fans will hit long RAM heatspreader fins which don't really serve a purpose. That reviewer then goes on to admit that they have Corsair Vengeance RAM, which Noctua clearly states is too big, then has the stones to claim that it is standard height memory. Really? Vengeance LP will fit. All of the Ripjaws/Sniper series fit. This cooler keeps temps low while staying almost silent. It's worth it and yes it is big!

Cons: If you just have to have big fins on your RAM this isn't the heatsink for you. You are either going to have to go for one that is louder, does not cool as well, or go with expensive water cooling (a corsair h100 or h80 isn't going to cool as well as the NH-D14). Also I think Noctua fans are ugly, but a change of fan or some paint fixes that.

Overall Review: DDR3 RAM doesn't really need a huge heatspreader and this cooler is going to keep them cool anyhow. Samsung makes the lowest profile RAM I've seen on this site. I think the clips that hold the RAM in are slightly taller. It overclocks beautifully. Get some. Noctua has a list of what fits and there are plenty with heatspreaders that don't have Vengeance fins. Standard height? lol. Got to be kidding me!

5 out of 5 eggsBest Air Cooler I Have Ever Used

Pros: Keeps my i7 3930k Six Core CPU at around 40 degrees under load and at 32 to 35 degrees the rest of the time.

Install was simple.

The included Noctua NT-H1 Thermal Compound works great. On the same level as Arctic Silver.

Noctua is a good company. Not only is this cooler outstanding but so is their customer service.I requested a couple extra wire fan clips from their site and after i emailed them my NewEgg invoice as proof of purchase they sent the clips to me free of charge.

Cons: None

Overall Review: An outstanding air cooler.Worth every penny.

5 out of 5 eggsBest cooler I've ever had

Pros: This thing is very quiet and keeps temperatures very low. It came with a Y cable to plug both fans into a CPU_FAN header on the motherboard. Though mine has 2 anyway. Using on ASROCK Extreme 6/GB, which is a very nice board, unlike the Asus Sabertooth X79 which put me through hell and back for a week before getting replaced. I wish I had known ahead of time that this cooler came with thermal paste. I ended up buying some for no reason. Anyway, this keeps my 3930K at 30 C idle and maybe 40-45 on a higher load.

Cons: Be careful when installing RAM. Heatsink fins must be low. G-Skill ripjaws is the way to go. Ive had no problems and the heatsink fins arent high enough to block the cooler. This cooler is huge so it will block 2 ram slots. Thats not a con against the cooler, but more a con against RAM fins and compatibility with RAM. Be careful when picking RAM, do your research. Google is your friend. Corsair Vengence is a no-no with this cooler

Overall Review: This cooler is huge. Ive had no problems with it.

4 out of 5 eggsMassive but good

Pros: Keeps my new 6-core i7 plenty cool.

Cons: Size

Overall Review: I have 32GB of RAM on x79 sabretooth and because I am only using slots A1, B1, C1, and D1 it just barely fit. If i wish to upgrade in the future to 64Gb of RAM this unit would not fit as the dimms in slots B2 AND C2 (with the heat sync risers on the RAM) would interfere. Be very aware of the size of this unit. You need a big roomy case.

5 out of 5 eggsBest (and most expensive) air cooler I've used.

Pros: -*Large* surface area yields high ambient losses. It is the Cadillac of air coolers... like... a Deville. Limo.
-Fans are quiet and rarely need to raise in speed even w/mild overclocks. Cannot be heard over case fans
-Comes w/some thermal paste. Read some reviews and this still is supposedly superior to AC5 I've used for years. Good stuff. Very impressed.

Cons: None thus far. If anything... it required less... 'playing with' that I was used to w/past air coolers for optimal results.

Not a con... but you must search and get an idea as to whether or not it'll fit in your case and on your board w/the ram/GPUs. I have ~ 1/4-1/2" clearence over my ram and have to orient it forward to aft. Top to bottom doesn't work. It's pretty close to the side of the case... but... IT FITS.

I've owned an Artic Freezer 7 and Xigmatek Dark Knight on an LGA 775 before getting this cooler for my LGA 2011/3820 build. The AF7 had pushpins (meh). For Q6600 OCs in the 3.8+ Ghz range @ ~1.45, I had to lap both the IHS and the surface of the AC7. It was *not* flat at all. The Xigmatek threaded into a back plate and I swore off ever using anything that didn't screw in ever again. Much better contact surface that wouldn't loosen over time and the 120mm fan beat the 92mm fan hands down and was quieter to boot. The Noctura has 120mm and 140mm fans.

Overall Review: I have them set to ramp up at 50C, stock speeds and a slight undervolt, I can't really get temps to budge unless I use IBT/Prime, and then not past ~60C. Gaming they stay in the 35-45 range and the fans run at ~300 RPM. OCing in the mid-4 Ghz range still doesn't nudge temps much higher, it just requires the fans to ramp up. That being said, they're still quieter than my case fans. While I normally run stock (I went from a ~35 Gflop 3.8 Ghz Q6600 to a near 90 Gflop 3820 running stock) I'm in no way CPU bound where I had quite a few minimum framerate hits before, I have the peace of mind from testing this can handle 4.6+ Ghz OCs if I find I need them for the 1-3 years so I own this 3820. I only overclock when my hardware limits me. I'll definately keep it when IB-E comes out and I slap a 22nm 6 core processor on here and ride out the 2011 platform until it no longer hacks. The Q6600/LGA 775 lasted me nearly 5 years. I expect the LGA 2011 will last as long w/GPUs upgrades every ~2 years

5 out of 5 eggsreview of NH-D14 SE2O11

Pros: very well made, the instructions were very clear on what and what not to do. if you are going to cool by air and not water, this the cooler is for you, it kept a i75820K at under 60c with 3Dmark and heaven benchmark. It was not that hard to install at all compared to other coolers which you needed an extra pair of hands

Cons: none at this time

Overall Review: this is a very big cooler recheck you case twice to make sure. this cooler went on a msi X99s gaming7 M/B and into a cool master CM storm trooper tower with no issues at all in fact this HAS been the easiest installlation I have ever done. Price yes it is steep but if you are going with air then this is it,

5 out of 5 eggsRecycled to new computer

Pros: Had on a Gigabyte X79 G1.Assassin 2...

Reused on my new Gigabyte X99 Gaming G1 WiFi on a Intel i7-5960x. Fits with GPU (EVGA Titan Super Clocked w/ back plate) in slot 1 after bending the fan spring clips flat next to the GPU without touching.

Cons: I have low dollar Crucial memory which fits fine under the cooler right now. Will just have to be sure to get low profile memory when upgrading.

Overall Review: After reading somebody's suggestion here, I have the 2 fans on the OUTSIDE of the fin towers blowing in instead of one fan blowing the heat from one tower into the other tower. The case fans blow the heat upwards through the middle of the towers. Works great! The X99 motherboard has 2 CPU fan headers and I have each fan on it's own header.

5 out of 5 eggsQuiet and efficient!

Pros: Very, very quiet operation even under load. I primarily do CPU rendering and i have a variety of machines and coolers and this one is by far the quietest and the temps are on par with my water cooled machines.

It's straightforward to assemble and the mounting kit is easy to use, albeit a little tricky to screw in around the heatsink.

Cons: It's pretty big, but it has to be to be that efficient and not really a con if you have a mid size upwards case. It just fits in my Corsair 300R case.

Overall Review: Check the case size and motherboard and ram specs to make sure its compatible.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect.

Pros: If you follow some common sense, this is a breeze to install. (Remove the friggin fans first)

For its massive size, its super quite.

Keeps everything cool, temps dont rise more than 2 degrees.

Cons: The color is fugly.

5 out of 5 eggsIf you're going to cool with air, this is the way to go.

Pros: I run BOINC on my PC for hours at a time when I'm not gaming - which is very good at keeping my processor (i7 3820) under a full load. I'm not overclocking (yet), but my chip has yet to go over 45C after extended heavy use. Idles around 36C.

The fans are relatively quiet even without the low-noise adapter. Not silent, but not distracting. If you're going with air, you shouldn't expect absolute silence.

Cons: A little effort to install, mostly because you will have to apply some serious pressure to get it properly seated and the screws in place. Not challenging, but not cake either.

Overall Review: Calling this heatsink big is like calling Congress gridlocked - it's barely an observation worth noting. If you don't have the space, apply elsewhere.

Your BIOS might throw low fan speed errors (again, even without the low-noise adapter), but it really isn't a problem. Either reduce the low-end threshold it fires the warning for to around 300rpm or switch off fan monitoring. Don't be surprised if the fan speed falls below 300rpm on idle.

I have it attached to a Sabertooth x79 and everything fits as it should with clearance to spare, even the video card. Just make sure to buy low profile DIMMs.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, Just Overwhelmingly Huge

Pros: Noctua Fans are very quiet.
Moderatly low load, currently running:
[CPU Fan 1: ~ 635 rpm]
[CPU Fan 2: ~ 567 rpm]
[i7-3930k: 36*c @ 5% use, spiking to 43*c @ ~15% use]
I'm running scans in the background and the fan speeds are set to automatic so it's all variable.

Cons: The sheer size and weight of this heatsink makes it cumbersome to have installed. I probably wouldn't want it if I had a normal vertical motherboard tray.

It's easy to install, minus the 2 female screws which are tricky to thread in at first, you might need a 3rd hand to hold down the heat-sink. My thermal paste probably has air bubbles now because of the heat-sink springing up on once side as I tried to thread in the 2nd side.

The heatsink is too wide, and gets in the way of my first PCI-Express slot regardless of orientation. I had to install my GPU into a different position.

Make sure you don't get high profile RAM, I have maybe a 2mm of clearance over my GSkill 'sniper's

Overall Review: It's a nice piece of hardware, and very quiet; and does a good job of cooling even at lower rpm. How ever it is massive and get's in the way of things.

It probably would of been wiser instead to get a self contained Corsair CPU water cooler at a cheaper price, though I'm not sure how efficient those little things are.

5 out of 5 eggsIF YOU'RE CONSIDERING THIS AND KNOW YOUR CASE AND RAM WILL WORK, GET THIS RIGHT NOW! OTHERWISE, SWITCH CASE / RAM, AND GET THIS RIGHT NOW!

Pros: I'm running a 3930k, currently O/C'd using a previous air cooler to 4.2GHz stable with 64GB RAM (8x8) at 1866.

Previously, O/C'd Prime95 Large FFTs torture test 100% on a Corsair TPC 812 ("Vapor Chamber") w/ Arctic Silver 5 would hit a package temp of around 89C with the hot-core temp of about 95C and the fan was pretty noisy. When your temps are that high, you really can't even run the test for very long. I would see the temps approaching and then kill the test.

This cooler at that same overclock doing the same torture test never brought the package temp above 49C!!! that's a 40C drop!!! AND IT'S STILL NEARLY 100% SILENT!! It's actually more quiet at load than the other cooler was at idle!! NOCTUA, WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE?!

Cons: This thing is rather large, but surprisingly light for it's amazing size. Make sure your case has space in it!

Overall Review: I did all my pre-purchase research beforehand to see if it would fit in my case, and allow my RAM to work also. I have a Corsair 400R and it fits on my GA-X79-UP4 with no problems, and my RAM is G.Skill Ares F3-1866C10D-16GAB (8 x 8GB sticks!) Of course, I'm running the infamous Intel i7 3930k, and now I'm ready to push this sucker even further. I actually don't have the Noctua thermal paste on this; after doing a multitude of review comparisons, I found that the general consensus was that the Arctic MX4 edged out the Noctua TIM included with this cooler by fractions of a degree. But since Newegg just happened to be selling a tube of MX4 for free after rebate, I bit the bullet. A 4-5mm diameter dot in the middle as instructed by the cooler (not the line like you'd see on Arctic Silver's instructions) and that's all it took. Noctua, I am in love with you. Have my automaton babies.

5 out of 5 eggsMassive

Pros: Keeps a hexacore Core i7 running super cool.

Cons: Surprisingly large.

Overall Review: This fan is huge. I bought it for my mATX build, and it occupies all room from the Gfx card to the bottom of the case, front to back. It was not possible to route cables around it before install, and nearly impossible to do after the fact.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat performance but caveat for tall RAM/small case

Pros: Core i7-3930K, running at 99.6%-100% 24x7. Intel liquid cooler kept it at ~59C. This no-liquid cooler has it at 52C. I could even overclock... amazing performance and by far the best heatsink/fan CPU cooler I have ever owned.

Cons: I did have to get new RAM; as has been noted large heatsinks may prevent this unit from seating properly.I found DIMMs under 5cm in height total will fit. But this was made clear enough beforehand. This is a large and heavy unit; it requires a full-sized or oversized case so I may rubberband the heat sink to the case roof so that it isn't putting stress on the motherboard.

Overall Review: When my liquid cooler' warranty ran out, I decided to move off liquid, not wanting to risk the three top-of-the-line video cards I've added in the interim being leaked on (makers I have seen only compensate a small fraction of damage caused by their coolers leaking... if more people knew about this I would imagine the popularity of liquid wouldn't be so high.)

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing cooler, but very very large

Pros: This fan is a beast. I am using it with an overclocked 5820k running at 3.9 ghz. Idles are around 23C-27C, and under load rarely goes over 54C (on an overclocked CPU). When the 5820k was at stock (3.30ghz), I was getting idles of 19-21C! While idle and under load it is almost silent. The dual fan and heatsink setup create a great airflow, in conjunction with a front case intake fan and a rear exhaust fan its amazing.

Fan is very easy and intuitive to install. No back plate, the new X-99 boards handle cooler attachment very well. You just screw mounting brackets in, then 2 plates on top, secure those and fan gets attached right on. Easiest after-market high end cooler install I have had in years.

Cons: Only con is SIZE. The cooler is massive, literally 1/2 the size width wise of a full atx motherboard. It completely eclipses all the memory slots. If your memory is extra tall, you might have issues.

Overall Review: Luckily they are very open about this and their site even provides guides and compatibility with boards and memory. Before buying make sure you are diligent about its height, motherboard compatibility in relation to its size, and if it will be able to fit in your case with side closed. Trust me if you are not a fan of water-cooling this is the next best thing and is worth the time to check if it will fit!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat fan

Pros: First this fan is big.. very big. I have a 3930k and had a h80 before switching to this. I used a db meter app on my phone and my h80 hit 77db and the noctua hit 58 or so at full fan speed. I get the same temps as the h80 if not better. I hit stable testing at 4830mhz. The install was not as bad as you think and pretty easy. Mount the bracket to your board remove the center fan and screw it down. This fan is nice and quite and performs great without the worry of water or pumps. Stop waiting and buy this!

Cons: I guess the only con would be the size. This may not fit in some cases or boards from what I have read.

Overall Review: BTW I have an asus P9x79-pro and I have zero issues with pci-e slots or ram slot issues. The fan does hang over the ram but not enough to block you accessing it.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Keeps my CPU very cool. HW Monitor shows idle at 28-30C. 100% load gets it up to 35-38C.

It just fits a standard case. It hovers over 2 RAM slots, but there was still room for my RAM to fit underneath (G.Skill Ripjaw w/ heatsink)

Solid mounting.

Cons: Big and hard to work around. This is completely expected and accepted though.

RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic Cooling

Pros: This cooler has been fantastic so far. Just put my new build together and I have this cooling a 3930K (no overclock just yet) and it doesn't even break a sweat. Came with everything I needed to get it installed. Once I popped the CPU into the motherboard, this cooler was installed about two minutes later. This cools way better than my H70 did as well, and at about the same price point too (at least when I bought this). I would highly recommend this for anyone using an LGA2011 platform.

Cons: This thing is absolutely massive. Fortunately, I have an NZXT Phantom, so I've got plenty of room for it, but for most mid-tower cases, you may have troubles fitting this in the case. Also, the two spring-loaded screws can be a bit of a pain to line up at first, but once you get the first one in, the second one will fall in place nicely.

Overall Review: Once it cools down (Florida summer is really bad for overclocking I've noticed) I plan on testing out this build some more with overclocking. I have a feeling I will be able to get some very nice numbers out of this cooler and am extremely glad that I purchased this.

3 out of 5 eggsGeez...

Pros: Stuff runs cool under load and fans are quiet

Cons: They call them thumb screws for a reason! Don't use a screwdriver to tighten the heat-sink braces. One of the screws twisted right off... DOH! Luckily these are just big PCB mounts. I was able to fabricate another that worked perfectly. Also, this thing sits so high I had to remove the fans from the side of the case which I wasn't expecting. Lastly, had to set the BIOS to ignore the CPU fan speed as they spin so slowly.

Overall Review: Works well but is overpriced. I'm glad I could make a replacement knockoff otherwise I would have been really mad! I wish I had gone with a liquid-cooler instead.

5 out of 5 eggsWho Needs Liquid Cooling

Pros: What can I say, pre-Noctua, with my Q9550 at 3.8 GHz and 100% performance, the CPU ran at 60 deg C. Any speed over 2.9 GHz the CPU temp past the Intel 72 deg C limit. Post Noctua at 3.5 GHz and 100% performance the CPU is at 40-45 deg C.

Cons: It was a little tricky installing the SE2011 on a LGA775, but Noctua makes a kit for that. It's a little difficult to find, but Google helped. I was glad I have a full size tower case too. this thing is huge!

Overall Review: The fans can also be changed to optimize the airflow through the "radiators". The "stock" placement has air from one "radiator" going into the other "radiator" which might not be the best arrangement. I had room to change the fans around so air goes from the space between the "radiators" out in oposite directions.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Load Temps

Pros: Much lighter than I imagined.
Install was simple. Only really have to remove the inner fan to reach the mounting mechanism.
Got it during promo $20 off. Thanks Newegg!
Fans are fairly quiet.
Load temps were impressive..

Cons: ..however, idle temps were unimpressive.
Very large, do not neglect research and measurements!
Some say it's ugly and I'd agree it's not the most attractive, but unless you have a side panel window I wouldn't consider this a valid concern. Performance over aesthetics.

See other thoughts for temps and overall experience with the cooler.

Overall Review: Fan clips push against my upper GTX 670. Noctua states that with my mobo (Asus Rampage Extreme) this would happen and I should insulate the fan clips that push against the top of the card. So I wrapped the areas of the fan clips that were making contact in electrical tape. There's a backplate on the 670 so I probably didn't need to do this, but I tend to listen to the advice of the manufacturer. No problem mounting with Gskill Ripjaws Z memory which is fairly low profile. It's not quite as imposing in my CoolerMaster Trooper case which is wider to accommodate big heatsinks.

i7-3930K overclocked to 4.0 GHz could NOT get above 60°C under prime95 stress testing. Idle temps, however, were around 42°C. Somehow I expected mid-30s at least. Reading about the performance others are getting can set your expectations too high so when you actually use it you may be underwhelmed with it's performance out-of-the-box. It could certainly use further fan speeds adjustments.

Replaced a worn-down Corsair H100 that just wasn't cutting the mustard at load forcing me to downclock. H100 was promising when I first got it, but over time load temps began breaking 80°C. I think I'm done with closed-loop coolers. As a traditional heatsink the NH-D14 won't be so lacking in longevity as the H100 was.

I've since overclocked a bit higher since load temps were so safe.

5 out of 5 eggssuper cooling

Pros: this is my 2nd Noctua cooler.
make sure it will fit your mobo/RAM set up. i had to RMA my OC RAM cuz the heatsink on the RAM hit the pipes of the heatsink.
but it keeps my 3930 cooler than my previous i7 930!
the 140mm fan does make some noise which stops when i tilt it, i will order another 120mm to replace it cuz the stock 120 it came with is silent.
make sure you have 3pin to 4 pin Molex adapter cuz my mobo would not run the fans cuz the cpu temp was so low. in my BIOS i could set the 'fan monitor' to the voltage option to make the fans spin manually. Noctua says in their FAQ section that if your fans wont spin up at power on to us the 3-4 adapter included, but they dont supply one, you have to have it! bad typo Noctua.
Fan software show both fans moving at 1200 rpm with cpu temps frm 26-32*C and mobo at 32*C....these are the lowest temps i've ever had with Noctua heatsink/fans....it works great but check their website to make sure it will fit your mobo.

Cons: PMS fans may not work with mobo fan speed software. may have to change or use 3-4 Molex adapter to plug into your power supply.

5 out of 5 eggsFor a seasoned builder

Pros: Well built, best air cooler at the higher end price point.

Cons: None, if you heed my caution below. The bigger your mobo, the less stress this heavy cooler will exert overall. I prefer it for eATX or bigger but can def be installed even on mATX just fine.

Overall Review: This cooler can be tough for a fairly new case builder to install.

Points to minimize your headaches:

- Check for compatible ram and mobo on the Noctua site before ordering.
- When ready to install, insert ram into slots first and any pertinent psu plugs for the mobo. This will keep cuts to a minimum if you are plugging in things near the heatsink.

- Work on a flat tall table

- Wear gloves, you will get cut or tough it out and follow steps to minimize damage.

- You need a long shank Phillips screw driver, standard length screw driver or even the one included in the installation kit will result in bloody hands when attaching to cpu.

- After you align the cooler to your desired orientation, thread one screw barely in and then apply ample force to thread the other side to the cpu. You mobo will bow downward during this, make sure you have all proper standoffs installed underneath.

- Place fans and attach clips gently, the heatsink fins will bend very easily if mis

5 out of 5 eggsMy heatsink is bigger than yours

Pros: It's big. I've got one cooling my i7-3930K right now, and it's nearly inaudible even when running Folding@Home or other CPU-intensive tasks. It does a good job of cooling even with only one of the two fans, so you can use the other as a case fan.

Cons: It's big. Installation was something of a wrestling match, and the provided screwdriver isn't quite long enough for easy use (another inch or so would have made things easier).

Overall Review: It's big. Be sure to check the manufacturer's website for mainboard and RAM compatibility information, which is quite extensive.

Pros: It keeps the CPU very cool for for an air cooler. Runs very quiet.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler

Pros: I don't know how many people have tried this cooler in their system but it certainly is a step up from the norm. It has great cooling capabilites and is very quiet. My temps are very low even when benchmarking at 4.7-5.0 Ghz on my 3930k.

Cons: Its really big!...nothing really prepares you for the size...seeing it on the internet and physically holding it/fitting it are two different experiences.

Overall Review: This is a great cooler but do some research before buying this guy. The key points to look out for are 1). Is my RAM compatible with this cooler. -- I was lucky as I had G. Skill Ripjaws and it fit over the top of them with no problem. 2). Watch your slot 1 graphics card. I run 2 6970's in crossfire and the clips for the fans contacted the back of the card in the upper most PCIe slot. It was not a big deal as I just bent the clips down some to make some clearance. Noctua makes some amazing products and I have no problem purchasing anything from them. In fact I have 6x 140 mm Noctua fans coming from the egg.

5 out of 5 eggsBig Cooler

Pros: This is a quality constructed product. This is my first time installing an aftermarket cooler. Installation onto the motherboard was easy.

Cons: thing is huge!

Overall Review: I put this cooler on an ASUS p9x79 WS board and into a Corsair 600tm case.

If I had to do it over, I would install the mother into the case first, install the cpu, the memory sticks, the motherboard screws, and 8pin power connector.

Because it's an extremely tight space with this cooler is on the motherboard and in the case (mainly with the 8 pin connector and the top motherboard screws)

5 out of 5 eggsPerfecto

Pros: Cool, quiet and MASSIVE!!! Be sure you check Noctua's website for a RAM compatibility list so your not up ____ creek without a paddle. G.Skill Ripjawz Z Series worked perfectly in harmony with this cooler on a Rampage Formula IV Motherboard. It keeps my 3930k nice and cool at 31c Idle, 60c+/- under full load. Install was extremely easy even though the directions were quite bland. Good but expensive buy!!!

Cons: MASSIVE...and uhhh did I mention it's flocking HUGE???

Overall Review: It kinda resembles the Borg ship on Star Trek The Next Generation...

5 out of 5 eggsAn Exceptional product for Exceptional cooling

Pros: This heat sink can keep my 5820k cool at 4.5ghz up from 3.3 and its also pretty quiet

Cons: Its really huge, so huge it blocks the RAM slots and has some trouble fitting with certain RAM types. Their site has a guide for all the different types of RAM so make sure you check it.

4 out of 5 eggsNH-D14 for 5820k Review

Pros: This guy moves A LOT of air, and very quietly too. during a prime95 cpu stress test (i7 5820k) temps hovered around 70C. During normal use; rendering and gaming, highest temps I've seen are 60C.

Cons: It's BIG, when other reviews say this believe it. on the Noctua site they have a list of boards and incompatibilities. HOWEVER, this doesn't list ram compatibility. Check the physical dimensions of your ram, or the ram cooling fins may interfere with it. I run Corsair Vengence LPX (ddr4) [44mm height I think] and there is enough space for me to wiggle the ram into and out of place, but not much else.

I would NOT recommend this fan for anyone who has a need of moving their case around a lot, be it to work, lan parties, or even inter-office. The install instructions indicate that if your going to move the case remove the cooler first, and I tend to agree, its relatively heavy and the attachment system attaches to the base using 2 screws.

Overall Review: If your looking at this fan your going to want to look at a full case, not a mid. chances are it will not fit in a mid case.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Heatsink

Pros: Cool, this thing runs my i7-5820K super cool with an idle of 35c. Even when I stress tested the CPU it stayed chill, great card to get if you want to get water cooling temps without the hassle and potential dangers of doing a water solution.

Cons: This thing is HUGE! Its so large I was afraid that it would have its own gravitational pull! Also have to take it off to work on the ram. But I knew all this before buying it.

Overall Review: I just built my new PC and out of all the packaging the Noctua's was the best. It literally was a box within a box within a box all encased in foam. You could probably drop it off a two story building and have no damage done to it.

5 out of 5 eggsHuge, but cool

Pros: Cools very well, no cooling issues after the first 6 months

Cons: FREAKING HUGE!!!!! requires a large amount of space in the case just to exist. Also kinda hard to get those screws into the mobo.

Overall Review: This cooler taught me to always check the dimensions of the device that I'm ordering before I order it. I had no idea how FREAKING HUGE this thing was. The included screwdriver was absolutely necessary to attach it to the mobo, but it took me several attempts to get that second screw in. The first one went in without too much issue, and the last two were easy, but that second screw, well, I just couldn't get it to catch the groove on the mobo. After 30+ minutes I finally got it in. I took a break after that ordeal. That's when I realized that I should've put the RAM in first, since it covered almost half of the slots, including the one I needed. Fortunately I was able to get it in without having to take of the cooler, but I'm going to be hating life if I need more than 16 GB of RAM. Anyway, after all was said and done, I haven't had to touch this cooler since June of 2014. I've had not a single heating issue since installation, and I'm pretty happy with that. Makes all the work to install it worth it. That is, until I need to upgrade my RAM in a couple of years.

5 out of 5 eggsFit issue with Asus P9X79-E

Pros: Good instructions, easy installation, very effective cooling that runs nearly silent when using PWM. Fits CM N600 case.

Cons: In the P9X79-E, orienting the cooler so that the fans face the PCI-E slots resulted in interference with the clearance for RAM. Turning the cooler so the fans faced the back of the case resulted in the metal clips hitting the GPU in the first PCI-E slot. Fortunately, the P9X79-E can run the video card in slot 5, so I was able to get it to work.

5 out of 5 eggsToo small.....

Pros: I slapped together my pc for a stress test and this thing kept my cpu cool. I've always heard these things are really good, but wow!
Also another plus was I didnt have to change out the backplace to mount this thing.

Cons: Getting all of the fittings on was a pain but once they went on everything was smooth after that.

Overall Review: This thing was huge! I did some research and hoped for the best when I ordered this along with a Corsair case. It fit perfect but it still blew me away on the size of it.

4 out of 5 eggsweird to secure

Pros: almost totally silent. more extensive testing will have to be done, but from what i've heard so far, it's amazing.

Cons: the screw/screwholes on the side of the heatsink itself that go into the bracket are so difficult to get secured with one person... i had to have someone help me and at that, it took a good 10 minutes.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Cooler, it's just HUGE

Pros: -Keeps my Intel Intel Core i7-3930K Sandy Bridge-E nice and cool
-Quiet when compared to my old Intel stock cooler

Cons: -Size this thing is HUGE
-Very bulky (Even warns you not to move the Tower around with it installed)
-Installation isn't impossible but it isn't easy either.
-If paired with a EVGA X79 DARK - It will cover most of your RAM slots as well as your first PCI-E slot.

Overall Review: Didn't have much luck finding a huge selection for CPU coolers for the LGA 2011 CPU. Decided to pick this up, I knew it was going to be big, but when I got it I was a little surprised really how big it was. I'm using it on a EVGA X79 DARK MOBO and it is too big to use on this MOBO. I had to position it to cover my first PCI-e slot just so I can get my RAM sticks in. Even then the second RAM stick is pushing into the fins on the cooler. It also completely covers the other 4 RAM slots so they are now blocked. If I every need to remove/add Ram I will need to remove the cooler completely.
Installation was also Tricky, the tool they supply to screw down the heat sink onto the bracket doesn't work very well. I ended up making a mess out of my thermal paste just trying to secure it down. It also is too big for my Cooler Master mid tower case, I can no longer put the door on the side of my case on. But after installation it does a nice job keeping my CPU cool, and is very quiet. I will be going with a CPU water cooler sadly since I can't use my second video card with this cooler installed. If you have the space and wish to stick with a Fan/heat sink cooler, this one works great.

5 out of 5 eggsBlessed Silence

Pros: More quiet than the Corsair H100i that this cooler replaced, while keeping it just as cool. I have an i7-3970X that I was very concerned about cooling quietly. After a week of hearing a number of headache-inducing resonant vibrations from the H100i, I decided to go back to Noctua again. This cooler has been amazing thus far, and I don't have to worry about a pump dying.

Cons: The heatsink sits far too low, and I had to cut off two of the heatsink fins on the bottom exhaust side in order to make it fit next to my RAM. This heatsink is designed for low or normal-profile RAM; any RAM modules that have large heatspreaders or heatsinks will likely get in the way. It is easy to cut the heatsink to fit, but this will obviously void any warranties and will slightly reduce the efficiency of the cooler. Even modified, it just barely fit into my case. It was worth the trouble for me, though.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best

Pros: - amazing air cooing capacity
- very well made
- quality design and materials

Cons: - not cheap
- huge
- requires a case with lots of room

Overall Review: - keeps my i5-3570k running at around 30C
- CPU runs so cool that the 2nd CPU fan is usually off when not gaming!

I have 5 case fans (3 hard-wired at med speed, 2 BIOS controlled), 2 CPU fans on the Noctura, 1 for the GPU, and 1 for the PSU. I have a Fractal Designs R4 case, which has amazing airflow. I am running Cougar 140 mm PWM fans -- they move so much air that they run at the lower end of their range most of the time, making them close to silent. This is the best air-cooled cooler on the market, IMHO. Just make sure that you have lots of space for it -- it has 2 radiators and 2 140 mm fans. -- this thing is huge. But, it's ability to cool is no joke. My rig laughs at most stuff -- seems to be running close to idle most of the time.

4 out of 5 eggsMassive

Pros: This thing is massive. WOW, looking at the specs and picture you get a feel for the size of this thing. But it is so much more when you try holding this in one hand. I say try not because of weight but size. The enormity of this thing makes holding it in one hand unwieldy. Some users claim excellent cooling, I say maybe. I got Thermal Fusion 400 for this install. When leaving my computer to its own stock fan settings it idles around 43 when playing games with fan speeds of 950 rpm on an i7-3820-E. There is no OC on this. It is running in a Cosmos II case stock no WC. On a GA-X79-UP4 LGA 2011 with stock fan settings. On my mobo I needed to set my power levels from low to max lower if I wanted it cooler. 43c while gaming though is not bad. its also Silent.

Install was eah.
Pull the middle fan to install the unit with its screws (and screw driver) which were kind of a pain in the rear but that said I could have put this on with the mobo outside the case to make it easier. Obviously size and weight will make it impossible to put on while the case is standing tall so, don't try you will break something.

Cons: not the easiest unit to install. directions could have been better. That said I could have given it a bit more then a cursory look at the pictures. Again it was just 2 folded pieces of paper with like 12 languages on it.

Overall Review: I may pull this out and reapply to check that I have good conduction. I should but my paranoia tends to get the better of me.

5 out of 5 eggsNice fit After Modification and keeps cool

Pros: Overclocked i7 3920 to 4.6 ghz using 125 MHz Bus x 37 multiplier voltage around 1.38. Running prime95 stress test for over 5 hours now and peaked temp only reached 65C all 4 cores and all threads under 100% load. This thing is a beast and keeps CPU cool. I ordered a water cooler and I'm going to compare the 2.

Cons: Very Huge, I have 64 GB of ram on my Asus p79 Pro motherboard with high heat sinks. I had to remove the fans and then bend the bottom part of the grills up to make room for clearance. I then reattached the fans and everything worked out fine. I used the thermal grease that was already applied and was able to overclock to 4.67 GHZ with no issues on a partial locked CPU.

Overall Review: If you have a big wide case then get it, if you have a normal size case it will not be wide enough. I have a Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition case and it just barely fits. That's how huge this thing is.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat heatsink/fan

Pros: About the best cooling you can get before going to water. Clears most ram with modest heat spreaders. Great mounting system. Very high quality. Great fans, nice and quiet.

Cons: None. It's big, but that's just par for the course.

Overall Review: Using it on an overclocked i7 and it keeps the CPU nice and cool. I really like that Noctua tries to accommodate the need to clear nearby memory. So many heatsink/fan combos seem to have been designed under the assumption that motherboards are barren for an acre or two around the CPU, which is NEVER the case.

4 out of 5 eggsBigfoot

Pros: This cooler won't win any color-coordination awards (black- or gray-colored fans would have been more appropriate), but it seems to be a well-engineered and effective item. It was my first aftermarket cooler install, so I admit I had limited experience doing the install. I did my research before buying the unit to make sure it would fit in my build.

Cons: My biggest beef with the cooler was the installation. Noctua could save its customers a lot of grief if it made the sping-loaded screws long enough to thread into the socket adapter places without having to apply (what I thought to be) excessive force to thread them--I was afraid of breaking my processor/socket and/or spreading the thermal compound unevenly while installing the unit. The screwdriver Noctua supplies is too short to perform the installation. Noctua could have put arrows on the fans to indicate air direction.

Overall Review: I don't know if I applied too much or too little thermal compound, as I have not (as yet) achieved the low idle temperatures other users have reported at this site. I have not as yet loaded Windows on my build or adjusted the Noctua fan settings, but my CPU temperature was at 48 C when I first powered up my build and 45 C after I let it "cook" for 10 hours. I will see if the idle temperature goes down after I install and run Windows. I have to question the individual on this site who reported an idle temperature of 15 C (59 F), however, as that is lower than most room temperatures (does he have his build installed in an air conditioner?).

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Light weight so it isn't pulling on the motherboard.
Dual fans to keep it cool.
Multiple adapters to provide the best and most manageable cable setup.
Easy to install.
Comes with Thermal Compound.
Can't get the Core i7 3930k to exceed 62c under full load and with all my case fans at low RPM (Rosewill THOR V2 case).

Cons: None that I'm aware of.

Overall Review: I've never used Noctua fans or heatsinks before, so now that I have with a customer's computer, I have to say, they're definitely worth money you spend. I have my personal build ready for ordering (Have to order it part by part), and I have replaced all the case fans with Noctua fans as well as included this heatsink for my CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsNH-D14 SE2011 on an AM3+ board

Pros: Installs very easily, cools amazingly, and Noctua has great customer service.

Cons: None

Overall Review: I helped my friend install a Corsair water cooler and the DH-D14 took me around a third of the time with no help.

I was running a standard Zalman copper fin cooler and got around 32 idle and 47 load. I now get around 25 idle and 41 load. Using Cinebench over and over until the load temp didn't get any higher.

I bought this cooler not realizing that it was only for 2011(sad since 2011 is in the product name -_-). BUT, I emailed Noctua and they sent me the AMD bracket for free. At least I will probably be the only person with a NH-D14 running on an AM3+ socket with PWM fans(the normal NH-D14 for most sockets doesn't come with fans that use PWM).

I don't understand all the reviews about it being too big and not being able to fit. The dimensions are in the description and on the Noctua site it says that you can't use RAM sticks that have tall heatsinks.

Pros: I7 3930k on P9X79 Stock clock with Intel Stock cooler. 35C at Idle 65c Playing BF3. Could not run Prime 95 15 sec. Over 81C stopped test.
With NH-D14 SE2011 33 C. at Idle. BF3 51 C. 1 hour. Ran Prime 95 did not go over 55 C. after 30min. Over Clocked 3950 GHZ. Idle 33 C. BF3 54 C. after an hour. 5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, quiet, cool, and huge

Pros: Very quiet. Fits perfectly over my G.SKILL memory with heat spreaders in an ASRock x79 Extreme motherboard. The 140mm inner fan / 120mm outer fan combination works perfectly - it keeps my CPU core below 61C even with a full heavy load, yet the 120mm fan fits over my memory where another 140mm fan would be too big.

It came fully assembled which helped a TON! I installed a previous version of the Noctua 2-3 years ago and it came in a bunch of pieces that I had to figure out. Of course, you end up partly disassembling it to install it, but it's quick and easy to put back together when you know how you partly took it apart.

Cons: It's huge and heavy. Don't get memory with very tall heat spreaders.

Overall Review: Install this as late in your assembly process as possible, as it's a pain to work your hands around it once it's installed.

5 out of 5 eggsLarge and in Charge

Pros: Cool and quiet. Even when fully saturated and under full load from my 3930k it never got loud and really was hard to pick out of the background noise. Look forward to hitting it with some overclocking and really see what it can do!

Cons: LARGE, HUGE, GINORMOUS, (INSERT OTHER EUTPANISM FOR BIG HERE). You really cannot appreciate how big this is until you hold it in your hands. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK YOUR CLEARANCES BEFORE ORDERING!

Overall Review: I amusing this to keep my 3930k cool in an Asus P9X79 Deluxe with 16gb of G.Skill Ripjaws series X ram and it fits. Do not go with any heatspreaders that are taller. Also this cooler is nice in that it doesn't require a backplate with the lga 2011 bracket so it is a less painful affair. My case is of pretty decent size but its a tight squeeze.

Runs very cool and silently even under full LinPack after 25 passes.

5 out of 5 eggsBetter than expected

Pros: - Ability (Cools my CPU so perfectly...I ran out of voltage overclocking, NOT temperature)
- Easy to install (simple instructions, not hard to secure or handle)
- Perfect fit in my Fractal Design Define XL R2 Black Silent EATX Full Tower Computer Case (NOT HUGE OR TOO BIG!!!)
- Quiet even at 100% fan during stess testing and regular use
- Plenty of room over my ram ( CORSAIR Vengeance LPX) and plenty or room my 1st PCIe slot on my MSI X99a Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard.
- CHECK YOUR COMPATIBILITY - easy to figure out and understand on Noctua's site.

Cons: NO CONS!!!! AWESOME COOLER...Less hassle then water and works just as good for me even in the Florida heat and humidity

Overall Review: 4.4gz Overclock on i7 6850k (All cores under 70c at 100% burn load on several different benchmarks and burn tests)
Not as huge as people make it sound. Don't think you can stuff it in a small case. I am in a full tower and have plenty of room
Do your homework, check compatibility instead of crying it doesn't work for your application (Noctua is very specific about compatibility requirements and measurements and their chart is easy to understand)
- Motherboard compatibility http://noctua.at/en/nh-d14/comp
- Ram compatibility http://noctua.at/en/nh-d14/rcomp
So many people have complained about size, or it covering their first PCIe slot, or not fitting over their ram...Just check the links and see if it will work for you rather then giving a negative review because you didn't do your research.
It is not overly heavy, not overly large and works BETTER then I expected.
I AM SO HAPPY I DECIDED TO BUY THIS COOLER RATHER THEN ANYTHING ELSE!!!!

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU Cooler

Pros: Excellent air cooling; Amazing technical support; Quiet; Easy to clean

Cons: Absolutely massive and not at all discrete. But that's to be expected in a high-end air cooler. So make sure your case is big enough for it.

Overall Review: I have an i7 3770k and it is one hell of a hot processor, Intel changed the thermal interface on the top of their Ivy bridge line so now they heat up far more than the Sandy bridge ever did. This keeps my CPU at a clean 34 degrees when running at max load and at 25 degrees when idle, that is some insane cooling. Also it is quite the jet engine and produces great case airflow, just make sue you have enough coming in s that you dont create too much of a vacum.

Also, my cooling unit was shipped without the Intel mounting kit for installation so I had to make do with the stock cooler: bad idea, it went up to 90 degrees before i hard shutoff the PC and replaced Intel's sub-par thermal gel and still it stayed idle at 45 degrees. I sent an email to Noctua's tech support team and they responded within the same day, and took no longer to respond than a day for any further emails. They sent me the parts free of charge, all I had to do was show them the invoice. No hassle, no hoops to jump through. Just great customer service.

Final Thoughts: I highly recommend this cooler to any enthusiast building a high performance machine, especially for gaming. It is an excellent, well built cooler. Noctua provided great, prompt support and I will be using their coolers in all of my future builds.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Well built, and even though the fastening wires for the fans are a bit weak you would have to be very careless to break them. I live in a very hot climate and the 3930K never goes beyond 62 under heavy load.

Cons: Since no one before me mentioned this, I'll just say it: IT'S MASSIVE. Not massive as in: "-Gee, that's massive". No, it's massive as in: "-WTH WERE THEY THINKING?!" You really, really need to buy low-profile RAM. Check the clearances at Noctua's page, you definitely need to pay attention to that. I was a bit concerned about the weight, but the TPower X79 didn't make any worrying sounds. Once you install it though, don't move the case or you might brake something. And get a proper screwdriver instead of the one that comes with the D-14.

Overall Review: 2019 Update: Still working perfectly, what a great buy.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great and runs quite but could be to bulky for your build.

Pros: Fans run quite and keeping the PC cool. Other than figuring out how to place the heat sink to be compatible with my current motherboard, installation was simple.

Cons: Read though many comments about the heat sink being to large for their case/board. I also, had some issues with the placement of the heat sink in conjunction with the RAM. Luckily, my motherboard has 8 slots and was able to seat the 2 8GB sticks. What I have always known about installing RAM is that you want to place them in the correct sequence, but with how today's technology has changed, not sure of the the principles are the same still.

Overall Review: Make sure you do some measurements to insure that it will fit. If you plan on upgrading your motherboard in the future and this is currently to big for your current board, the outside fan can be removed to help save some space.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great, Easy Install, and nearly Silent too!

Pros: This CPU cooler inst any more difficult to install then a stock cooler.
- There is no backplate to install first.
- You aren't left wondering if you used too much or too little pressure when tightening down the screws.
- The 140mm fan helps cool your motherbd components and ram!

It even comes with High Quality Thermal Paste... and enough of it for you to check your 'spread' and reapply it a few times.

The Cooling Performance Rivals that of All-in-One Watercooling without the disturbing high speed fan noise most of them have when under stress.

I buy cooler to keep my system on the quiet side of life and this more than does the job, even with my meager 4ghz overclock (5820k) the fans never go above 60% and keeps my CPU at 46c during stress testing

Cons: None at all

Overall Review: Hardest part of the install is deciding if you want a normal front to back airflow or updraft cooling*. LoL

*bottom to top airflow (for those with top vents)

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing performance

Pros: Keeps things very cool. Silent. Dead silent.

Cons: Takes up a lot of space. Blocks cool looking Motherboards.

Overall Review: I was very nervous about his heatsink clearing the RAM, but was careful in measuring and had no problems. IT fits perfectly into the case. It is big and heavy, but produces really low temps with no real noise. I have yet to see my CPU go over 42 C, and typically runs about 28-30 C. This is well worth the money, but do your research and make sure it will fit your build.

5 out of 5 eggsCool and Quiet

Pros: It keeps my 5820K running at 4.5Ghz 1.20V at 55C under full load. It is super quiet, almost inaudible.

Cons: Ram compatibility due to clearance issues.

Overall Review: This CPU cooler is massive, its almost the size of my head. Make sure that your RAM, case and motherboard are compatible.

5 out of 5 eggsNoctua NH-D14 SE2011

Pros: Great cooling solution with 6 heatpipes dual radiator for a LGA 2011-v3 X99 platform. Installation was simple and the included hardware is of high quality. The LGA 2011 mounting system, SecuFirm2, is very secure to the motherboard. Several adapters are included to control the fans and it can be made even quieter with low noise adapters. The included thermal compound, Noctua NT-H1 is easy to apply. The cpu cooler is large, there is no doubt about that, but there were no issues in installing it over G.SKILL Ripjaws 4 DDR4 ram with medium size heat spreaders. It readily fit inside an Antec 300 case, which is not a particularly large case. The fans are quality with good bearings for longevity and low noise.

The NH-D14 keeps temperatures reasonable on an overclocked 6-core i7-5820k. An overclocked 5820k, at 4.3 GHz and 1.25 V the temperature was reasonable at full load for long periods of time. The cpu cooler performs very well and that has been shown in the many reviews online showing its performance compared to other high end air cooling.

Cons: More expensive than some other cpu coolers. The color of the fans is not the most appealing as it does not match with most motherboard color schemes. There may be issues clearing RAM that has cooling fans, so be sure to consider that.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent product

Pros: Excellent temp reduction from a hyper 212 evo, at least 5-10 degrees celsius at idle. Haven't overclocked my xeon 1650 yet, but I don't anticipate cooling being a bottleneck.

Cons: It's big. Do your measurements and research, don't assume it'll just fit. Noctua has a list of compatible motherboards on their website.

Overall Review: Get it if you can't get the D15. Better temps than water cooling in some cases.

4 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Really efficient cooling, and almost silent. Very satisfied of the product.

Cons: Sheer size made it hard to install. Scratched my hands a couple times.

Had to disable CPU fan monitoring in BIOS because PC would say "CPU fan error" on boot. Turns out the fans turn so slow that the monitoring says it's anormal and prevents booting. Would have been nice to see it written in the documentation.

5 out of 5 eggsJumping Jehosafat!!

Pros: Quiet, works great, nicely engineered to clear ram, etc.
Even overclocking and stress testing my I7 six core at 4.5GHz, it's quiet and kept the processor cool.

Cons: It's huge. I mean, check the dimensions! I have a 4U case and either I need a different case or hood scoop!

Overall Review: I cannot hear it run, pretty sure I could remove fan #2, but it fits and helps other components stay cool

5 out of 5 eggsEffective cooler

Pros: Cools well w/ med high overclock. Quiet. Clearance for GSkill Ripjaws ram on Gigabyte x99 Gaming G1.
Clears 1st gpu slot if turned 90 degrees from the common mounting position. This works well for my cooling setup, drawing air over the power phase capacitors and blowing toward the rear of the video card

Cons: Ram probably would be difficult to remove if the mobo was still mounted in a case

5 out of 5 eggsBig. Works perfectly.

Pros: Includes good heatsink grease.
Silent at lowest settings.

Cons: If there was a con it would be that it is huge but I expected that.

Overall Review: Fits in NZXT H440 case (was a little afraid it wouldn't)

5 out of 5 eggsso big.

Pros: Max cpu temp ive seen after bench tests and stress testing with various programs/games is 59.5 C (the fans didnt even have to speed up more than about 800 RPM)

very straight-forward installation and the included thermal glue appeared to be of high quality.

printed instructions were easy to follow.

Cons: So this thing is huge. please make sure you visit Nactua's website and follow the links to verify the motherboard your pairing with this fan is compatible. with my mother board i had to be very careful to install the ram because i did this after i had already secured the heat sink and fans in place. (you might want to look into installing components that will be around this heat sink prior to putting the glue and screws in)

Overall Review: this is my very first custom built personal computer, and im very pleased i went with this fan.

I didnt put this in the cons section because its most likely due to operator error...that being said: Im pairing this with an ASUS P9X79 WS motherboard, and i got a CPU fan error until i went into the bios and set the low cpu fan alarm setpoint below 200 rpm. no worries though, never had temps get above 60c.

5 out of 5 eggsBest cooling fan ever

Pros: So quite while it operates, it has beat my water cooling system off. Pull and push fan design works great on my Xeon processor. While controlled temperature with all the heat pipe with it. Highly recommended!!!

Cons: N/A

Overall Review: Price is a bit high, but well worth it!

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Big! Yea Big

Pros: It's HUGE and it cools..

Cons: the mobo I installed this on had the Memory slots right under the fan,
Install memory first or make sure you have paste to re seal the heatsink..

Overall Review: Just make sure it is gonna fit..

I tossed this in a old xps 730 case on top of new i7 and mobo...

It fits Like a glove....

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent CPU cooler

Pros: Keeps CPU cool ~27-32 C when idle or using computer in desktop mode.
Quiet at low speeds.
Includes cables and adapters for all possible combinations including a Y connector.

Cons: None.

Overall Review: I did not have any issues installing this cooler. It fit perfectly in a Fractal R4 case. So far it works as advertised.

5 out of 5 eggsEggcellent heat sink!

Pros: Rocking 4.5 on my 3930K at 39C, excellent fit on the EVGA X79 Dark. Noctua actually certifies this cooler for both the Dark and G.Skill memory.

Cons: Could have used a third hand to install

Overall Review: I first tried a Zalman, and it did not fit on the X79 Dark. So, back to the drawing board, and did my research the next time around. This one fits like a glove. Noctua provided measurements that it would fit the board and memory. Installation was probably the easiest I have ever experienced. Even so, a third hand would come in handy when you are trying to screw in the spring loaded screws. With that said, it's hardly worth knocking an egg off for it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing cooler, just a bit big

Pros: -Amazing cooler, max temps are around 54C. (idle 40C)
-Low RPM's keep the cooler relatively silent (See "Other thoughts" for more information)
-Quality materials
-Some what easy installation (See "Other thoughts" for more information)

Cons: Just that i didn't look at how big this cooler is :)

Overall Review: *NOTE: Make sure you check your ram height as this cpu cooler will go over them as it is huge, the pro is you can mount it vertical or horizontal. Mounting the cooler the other way will force you to use the 2nd pci-e express slot to mount your video card.

"Low RPM's", while this is good some motherboards will have a warning appear saying the RPM is too low. I had to disable the warning to allow the computer to boot up.
For the fan extension cables make sure to read the label as some reduce voltage to lower the RPM even more.

The installation was a bit "hard", Had some trouble getting the screws to go in to the socket as you have to apply a huge amount of force to press the springs down but other than that it went smoothly.

Computer Specs:
CPU: I7 4930k (OC ~4.1)
MotherBoard: Sabertooth X79
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Z (16gb ~2133)
GPU: Evga 780TI SC (~980)

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great.

Pros: Quite and cool, very high quality.

Cons: No con's really other then it's huge and heavy so make sure you have enough room and you won't want to mount this on a system that travels a lot since it's so heavy I would not trust the wight bouncing during transportation of system.

Overall Review: It's huge so make sure you have enough room. I ordered this model for the PWM fans for use on an 1150 motherboard so I also had to order the back plate mounting kit "Noctua NM-i115x Mounting Kit"

4 out of 5 eggsmassive but effective.

Pros: quite! even at full chirp this thing is barely noticeable.
cpu so far has maxed out at 56* so good news there too.

Cons: HUGE. like worryingly so. could not orient with the exhaust blowing up or down due to memory clearance issues. oriented left right works, but just barely. i think i have about 2mm clearance off the memory headsinks. like others have said you will probably get a fan speed warning. but... its within the manufacturers specs.

Overall Review: great, if your motherboard and case can work with the size.

4 out of 5 eggsBig Heat Stink

Pros: Before purchasing Noctua, I checked the motherboard manufactories Quality Vendor List and found it had been approved. It's easy to install, it fit quite well, and works just fine. I don't overclock so I guess my review isn't for the extremist.

Cons: At this time I don't have anything negative to report.

Cons: Was a bit difficult to attach using the tools provided.

5 out of 5 eggsMassive Cooler

Pros: + MASSIVE
+ Keep 3930K at 50oC while under load
+ Very Quiet
+ Funs runs at low RPM
+ Must remove this heatsink to install RAMS on Asus Sabertooth x79

Cons: +Too big for its own good

Overall Review: Pricey but you get what you pay for. Couldn't be happier with this cooler. Excellent Combo for intel 3930K processor.

5 out of 5 eggsMassive

Pros: Huge; measure your case carefully before buying. Quite a bit of mass to suck up the heat and the fans are very quiet.

Cons: Get some extra thermal paste if you haven't built a system in a while. After 3 or 4 tries at getting everything to fit (rams, heatsink, case) I ran out. Low profile rams will make your life much simpler in this regard.

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful product

Pros: Solid build, great cooling performance

Cons: None

Overall Review: Decide on the motherboard to be used BEFORE buying this product - due to its size, most motherboard layouts are inefficient when combined with this cooler. Make measurements in advance if needed.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Keeps the system running nice and cool. I am idling at 28c and under heavy load I have not been able to get over 41c.

Cons: Its big, but if you do your homework it will install with no problems.

Overall Review: The manufacture's website has all the known configurations it works with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Very good cooling performance, 100% prime95 on i7 3930k for one hour yields 53C max temperature.

Very Quiet, huge improvement in both areas from my previous H60.

Cons: none

Overall Review: Many people say it's large but most mid-towers will fit it, my Corsair 200R easily fits it with slightly less than an inch to spare.

4 out of 5 eggsRidiculous

Pros: Extreme cooling performance, very low noise stock fans.

Cons: This cooler is EXTREMELY large. On an Asus P9x79, there is approximately 5mm clearance between the cooler and the backplate of a video card in the first blue slot with the cooler oriented horizontally. I had to modify the clips in order to fit a card in. Alternate mounting (read: vertically) leaves no room for a fan on the bottom. Removing RAM modules in the first 3 slots requires removing the cooler. The mounting screws are spring tensioned, making mounting without being able to see a frustrating endeavor.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Fan

Pros: Sturdy build, Big fans move around a lot of air. good instructions. cpu temps fine

Cons: installation a bit weird. You have to remove fans to install. DONT USE THE SCREWDRIVER IT COMES WITH. you wil get really frustrated as I did.

Overall Review: cpu temps don't seem to be crazy at idle. We'll see what happens after stress test.

3 out of 5 eggsMassive, works, not life changing.

Pros: Running a core i7-3770K at stock speed, I replaced a Zalman cooler with this device and got my full load temps from 72 to 62. This is not the dramatic change I have seen in some other posts, but still it's an improvement and I feel more confident to begin to overclock.

Cons: It's big big big. If you don't have a cutout in your case for the cpu baseplate don't even try it. On my Intel DZ77GA-70K mobo it covers the memory slots and I had to replace my standard Vengeance memory with the low profile version.

Overall Review: I have never tried the stock CPU cooler that came with my 3770K so I cannot tell you how it compares to that only to the Zalman thing that looks like a ferris wheel.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Sauce

Pros: * Decent price
* Great heat dissipation
* Very quiet

Cons: * Tight fit.
* 3 pin fans

Overall Review: I wanted a new cooler for my Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield @ stock speeds to lower noise levels and for future overclocking. This heatsink is awesome it's the size of my head and dropped temps from mid *70 to about *35.

The review on frostytech's website was the reason I chose this heatsink.

4 out of 5 eggsHuge sink

Pros: - Cool as a can be without going liquid.
- Dual large fans make cooling very quite even under stress.
- Comes with all the adapters you could possibly need.
- Easy to replace cooling fan that comes in a standard case fan size (huge benefit)

Cons: To say this sink is big is like calling Godzilla an overgrown reptile. Once installed, it basically covers the entire part of the Mobo from the first PCI slot to the upper edge of the Mobo.
It fully covers 6 of my DIMM slots (3 on each end) on an Intel DX79SR Mobo.
The Corsair heat sinks on my memory mods did not clear the sink so I had to clip 3 of the bottom fin edges on the sink (easy enough with a pair of pliers), no loss of cooling I'm sure since it wasn't a lot clipping.

Overall Review: Had I known how big this thing was, I would have probably opted for a more compact solution. It would have been nice if they showed what one of these units looks like after its mounted in a Mobo.

5 out of 5 eggsA Great, Big, Cooler

Pros: I bought this cooler for a build that includes
Intel i7-3930K, G.Skill 32GB, Corsair 600T Black Mesh case, Diamond MM HD 7970.

Did I say this cooler is big? After installation everything worked, temps were 32-35C, with only one problem, but no fault of the cooler, everything was very snug.

Cons: No complaints.
The word is "measure twice, cut once".
Something I should have done.

Overall Review: There was about a 1/4 inch between the cooler fins and the back of the video card. Given the performance, there is no way I would consider taking any eggs from this product.

While I did eventually replace this cooler in this build for a Corsair H80 Liquid cooler, is was NOT for better performance. It was just the size for this case.

I'm not sending the product back. I'm keeping it for install in a full tower server.

This cooler works great, it's NOT loud, but it does require a full size case to give it justice. Great cooler.

4 out of 5 eggsBig but nice

Pros: This thing will definitely keep you cool. Not for the beginner.

Cons: I had to flip the fans to get the desired flow direction. That required bending the brackets and wasn't very easy. Also, forget about using the included screwdriver to attaching it to the CPU. You need a lot more leverage and it's just barely long enough to reach.
