which port number do I hook the input (to internet) plug?

Any port will work on a switch. All ports are equal. But to make it easier to remember, I generally plug the "input" cable to either the first or last port on the switch and connect "user" devices like computers and printers to the other ports. The "Input" connection typically comes off the home Router's "LAN" ports while the Router's "WAN" port connects to the Cable Modem or DSL modem output.

I need a small inexpensive Ethernet switch that supports VLAN. I have the Netgear GS108T, which supports VLAN's. The GS108E says it supports VLAN's, but it is unmanaged so I am leery that it really can support VLAN's. Does it support VLAN's for sure?

It works for me, I am running several VLans through mine and have had no hiccups.
