1 out of 5 eggsI thought these bags were good?

Pros: Looks nice.
Great reputation.

Cons: Not sturdy

Other Thoughts: After 36 (ish) days of use,one of the grommets has already ripped off. This is not what I expected. I would love to swap this out and see if this was just a fluke, but I am just outside of the 30 day repair replace window set by Newegg. I am very upset by this...

4 out of 5 eggsGood Stuff

Pros: The laptop compartment is very large. There's a separate compartment for my tablet. There's still room to comfortably carry a couple books and my portable electronics accessories.

Cons: The area in the laptop compartment is mostly just an open area. There's no good place for laptop transformer/power cord and external mouse. Stuff just sits together in the area. Designated tablet pocket isn't particularly well padded, but the bulk of the backpack as a whole more or less makes up for that. I have to carry around a few different wires (microUSB, USB2Samsung, USB2Apple, and microUSB2HDMI), and there's no really good place to stash all of these cords. It's a common failing in these "laptop & tablet" back packs. I would like more specialization in the "pencil pouch" area too. It's mostly just another small rectangular area where I throw my mouse and a random selection of other stuff.

Other Thoughts: everything is quality, as you'd expect with swiss gear.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Bag, perfect size for 15-16"

Pros: Feels sturdy- Good zippers, nothing snags, no threads hanging, the material isn't very thick, but there are so many layers of it that overall it offers ample protection.

Cons: Nothing markedly stands out at this price point.

Other Thoughts: The thin material is about average for a bag at this price range, but the overall quality is very good. Single stitched throughout so don't expect the seams to last forever. Padding is a bit thin, but on the dense side so is adequate. The bag is light, and the mesh on the back is a nice touch. Holds plenty of stuff without it banging around. The pocket layout is nice, there is a tablet pouch with velcro strap, laptop sleeve with strap, external water bottle pouch, I've got a mouse, mouse pad, external slim DVD, stylus, portable battery, bunch of cables etc and I haven't even touched the main part of the bag yet. Still the bag isn't "huge". It's still about the size of an average backpack you lugged around at school.

2 out of 5 eggsDidn't Last

Pros: Looks nice
Lots of room
Plenty of compartments
Comfortable

Cons: I have owned this bag for a little over a year and use it everyday. A lot of the stitching on the inside of the main compartment is coming undone (frayed strings everywhere!).

Other Thoughts: It was a good bag while it lasted, it just didn't last nearly as long as i would expect. Good thing i got it on sale when I purchased it!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Backpack

Pros: sturdy / Swissgear / very comfortable / Laptop pocket padded well

On sale it's an awsome buy

Cons: not a lot of pockets

Other Thoughts: Holds my lunch, tablet, headphones, portfolio, glasses etc. Everything I need for daily work.

holds my wife's Dell 16" laptop - have not tried my Toshiba 17.3" (I have a Dell XPS backpack for that. That is a BIG backpack) This is better for daily use.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent for (discounted) price

Pros: -Reasonably sturdy
-Trusted brand
-Strong/comfortable straps
-Laptop portion padded pretty well
-If you care, it is "airport security friendly." Eh, whatever floats your boat.

Cons: -Not necessarily a con for everyone, but was for me: very straightforward design, not a lot of cool/nifty pocket for micromanaging your items.
-Having owned other SwissGear items, I can say that the materials and zippers are not as high quality as a number of their other products. The quality is fine and definitely appears dependable, but know that you're buying mid-range item and not a top-of-the-line. I got this on sale and it is definitely worth the price.

Other Thoughts: Fits my somewhat large 16.4' screen laptop. A slightly larger laptop could fit, but I'm not so sure about a 17' or 17.3'.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost perfect

Pros: Very well made backpack with lots of pockets and options. When not full it squishes down quite well if you have limited storage space (e.g. in the trunk of a small car). Of the three zips, two have double-zipper format and the third only has one zipper. The side pockets are good for drinks and the carry handle is strong and comfortable, as are the straps. I am 5'10" and 190 lbs if you want a reference for body size.

Cons: Only criticism I have is that the small pocket has only one zipper slider (the small piece which moves). I like to have two sliders on each so that the opening can be at the top. That way if it is not perfectly closed, or you're careless, your stuff won't fall out so easily. I would have liked to have a double zipper zip on the front pocket too, where I keep e.g. keys and a phone, so they would be less likely to fall out. But still five stars.

Other Thoughts: I have travelled a lot with this and the main "notebook ready" feature where you unzip it and lay it flat doesn't seem that useful and I have never used it. TSA always asked me to take the laptop completely out of the bag (and neoprene case) for security.

5 out of 5 eggsNice simple backpack

Pros: Light
A lot of storage pockets
Easy to zip/unzip

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Contruction seems solid. Easy to open to get to a laptop. Zippers work well. I just wish it had a littel more padding at the bottom for where the laptop sits.

4 out of 5 eggsSwissGear Valve backpack

Pros: Purchased on 2/26/14 and took 5 days to arrive (over a weekend).

Pros include:

- CHEAP when discounted ($26 with free shipping).
- Good consruction.
- Will hold my 17" Dell Precision laptop (snuggly).

Cons: Just a few observations:

- The bag has two (2) handles on the top. The rear (main) handle is just a simple piece of material and could be uncomfortable to use if the bag is heavy.

- The side mesh pockets (for water bottles) are on the smaller size. They could be slightly bigger.

Other Thoughts: Overall, I am happy with my purchase.
