HooToo® TripMate Travel Router

  • Wireless N150 Travel Router
  • USB Storage Media-sharing Device
  • 6000mAh External Battery Charger

Versatile Travel Companion
HT-TM01 TripMate is a versatile device with all its features packed into a sleek and compact body that fits right in your pocket.

TripMate Can -
  1. Either be a Wi-Fi router that turns both an existing wired or wireless Internet connection into a handy, secure, local Wi-Fi hot spot or create its own local Wi-Fi hot spot, all shared by multiple devices;
  2. Turn into a Wi-Fi USB storage file sharing device for your mobile phone, tablet, or laptop by turning either an inserted memory stick, an SD card, or a portable USB HD drive of your choice into a NAS (Network Assisted Storage) device of almost limitless capacity; or,
  3. Be a backup battery that - besides powering the above two modes of operation - also charge your mobile devices - either fully or partially depending on brands and models.

Physical Layout of Simplicity
TripMate is well-designed and solidly built in the shape of a small battery. It weighs only 4.4 ounces, the same as an iPhone 5. With the width of three fingers, it is light, compact enough to be easily tucked away and pulled out of a backpack, carrying case or purse - it even fits comfortably in one's jacket's or pants' pocket. Perfect for trips.
Big things from a small package
Big Things from a Small Package

TripMate doesn't sacrifice performance in favor of its portability. 2.4Ghz wireless technology allows 11n data transfer rates of up to 150Mbps while still remaining compatible with older 11b/g devices.

Powered by USB for extreme portability
Powered by USB for Extreme Portability

Because power outlets are often in short supply while traveling, the HT-TM01 can be USB-powered to ensure convenient Internet access anywhere.

Advanced Security Features
Advanced Security Features

To provide the highest data security possible, TripMate supports WPA, and WPA2 encryption.

Light-weighted and Compact
Lightweight and Compact

TripMate's tiny size makes it ideal for use on the road and is powerful enough to satisfy almost any basic wireless application requirement.

TripMate Works as A Portal Travel Router (AP/Router/Bridge)
Application Guide:

Definition (AP): TripMate is connected to a wired network and transfers the wired Internet access into wireless so that multiple devices can share the Internet.

Application: Offices, home, hotel, and places where only wired network is available, or LAN game party, small meeting with files sharing and other situation where a temporary network is needed.

Definition (Router): TripMate is connected to a DSL or cable modem and works as a regular router.

Application: Internet from DSL or cable modem is available for one user but more users need to share the Internet.

Definition (Bridge): TripMate borrows an existing wireless Internet and broadcasts it using a different network name (SSID) and password. By doing this it creates two individual networks for two groups of users sharing one Internet.

Application: Small restaurant, shop, bar, home, office and others where Internet services needed to be provided for guests without revealing the password of the existing network for hosts.

As a portable travel router, TripMate provides a runtime of up to 17 hours for browsing, online streaming, emailing, etc. Even for use with constant upload or download, TripMate still provides a runtime of up to 13 hours. It's powerful enough to satisfy almost any basic wireless application requirement on the road.

And your PDAs, tablets, handheld game consoles, or even some laptops can now no longer accept a wired connection, limiting their functionality in locations without wireless access.

TripMate Works as a USB Media Sharing Device

TripMate works as a portable USB file sharing device to give you unlimited access to all of your data, anywhere you are. Use it with your USB Flash drive or HDD or card reader (with SD storage) to access your videos, music, photos, files and more.

You will only need to download the HooToo TripMate app, plug in a USB flash drive to the HT-TM01, and start sharing away. Best of all, it also works with portable hard drives and memory cards plugged into a Flash card disk reader without any issues.

Stay connected to the Internet while sharing files and photos among your friends

Copy files, photos from your USB Flash drives, HDD and transfer them locally to your mobile devices, vice versa

Use the HooToo TripMate app to share photos, files, and movies with up to 5 users simultaneously

Stay socially connected, even from remote locations. Upload vacation photos from your USB card reader (With SD card) directly to Facebook and Twitter or to your email

Free up space by downloading photos from your phone's camera roll to your USB storage

TripMate Works as A Backup Battery Pack
HT-TM01 TripMate triples as an Backup Battery Pack (tiny in size that fits right in your pocket) that turns a dying smartphone or tablet back into a fully functional device. With its 6000mAh built-in battery, TripMate can easily charge up your device back to full strength. For instance, it completely recharges an iPhone more than twice over. Some Samsung phones get a bit more than one full charge. As for tablets - depending on brands and models, it will only supply from one quarter up to three quarters of a full charge.

More specifically, It enables you to run six extra hours for iPad, 30 hours extra talk, 140 hours extra music and 2 - 3 charges for most mobile phones (iPhone 4/4S/5, Galaxy S2, HTC Sensation 4G, etc)

5 out of 5 eggsMany features and all work great

Pros: I found the easiest way for me to set up this device was as follows.
1) I turned on the HooToo and plugged it into a wired network at my home/office. Once connected, I used my notebook wireless configuration utility to log into the firmware of the device itself via wireless generated by the device itself. The default name/password is TripMate-27D6/11111111. Open your browser and type Once connected you are greeted with the device log in screen. The default login/password is "admin" with no password. The reason I recommend using a notebook or tablet is for the larger screen. My phone screen is just difficult to work with due to its size.
2) In the firmware you can adjust all the settings to your liking. A wizard walks you through the initial settings so it is pretty straight forward.
3) The "Wifi and Lan" tab is where you name the SSID broadcasted by the HooToo and create login password for all your devices.
4) The "Internet" tab is where you set up the internet pass-through so that you can see your USB media connected to the device and surf the web at the same time. It is here that you tell the device how to connect to a local wireless connection (AP Mode) with login and password information. Wired connection (Bridge Mode) setting changes are not required (it defaults to Dynamic IP) as it gets info/IP address from your router.
5) Under system settings you can update/check firmware version and update if required. My unit had the latest firmware already installed.
6) Once settings have been made, you can save them and unit will reboot and you are ready to go.

All in all it took about 30 minutes to fully comprehend and set up this device. Just please remember your passwords. You will need passwords to log into the wireless SSID generated by the unit itself as well as the password for the app that you download from Google Play or Apple store. I use Android, so I downloaded the "HooToo Tripmate" and installed it. First time running the APP you are greeted with a login screen. Put password in that you created in the setup process and simply login in. Any device connected will show up in "My Tripmate" tab. Now you can access your media.

I have tested the following:

1) Wireless access point:
I turned off wireless signal at my home and plugged HooToo unit into a port on my router and "logged in" into the wireless SSID generated by the HooToo with my Nexus 7 tablet. I was surfing the web in less than 2 minutes. Very easy to do, once unit is setup using the method mentioned above. Works great and seems fast and reliable. This will come in handy in hotel rooms with no wireless access. I had 4 devices logged in at once and all seem to surf with relative ease.

2) Bridge Mode:
I left my wireless router "on" at my home and turned on the HooToo (not hard wired to my LAN), the HooToo remembered my wireless local settings and connected fairly quickly. I then logged in to its Wireless SSID with my Nexus 7 tablet and was able to surf

Cons: None if set up correctly

2 out of 5 eggsNot for travel

Pros: Works, but...

Cons: This device, in any of its three modes (AP, bridge, or router) should not be used for travel or a coffee-shop scenario. There is no way to designate which interface (wired or wireless) is on the "public" side, so the admin interface is exposed to whoever else in your hotel wants to take a shot at it. The URL to the admin interface is multicast on every interface, so everyone will know where to aim. But it gets worse...

While the NAT (in AP or router mode) works, there is no isolation between the wired and wireless networks, not even a one-way NAT like you would expect to see in a "normal" wireless router from 2002. But it gets worse!

You can get or set any parameter (or file if you're using the NAS) on the device through any interface without needing a login.

Other Thoughts: Pros: cheap, works
Cons: horrifying security

5 out of 5 eggsNeat little device!

Pros: Extremely Versatile! It's like a Swiss Army Knife for the techies!
Both the connecting speed and the battery life are decent!

Cons: Can't find any for now

Other Thoughts: I work for Oil&Gas industry and I travel a lot, in shop condition, you don't normally get the luxury of 100% wifi coverage in the work space.
Purchased this neat little gadget and shared the company network through a short ethernet cable, left it constantly charged through a wall plug nearby. Every guest visits are happily ever since.
The device doubled as external battery pack is a sweet plus feature, I no longer have to carry an additional battery pack with me.
All in all, very happy with the device, I would highly recommend all the road warriors out there to go get one, you'll need it!

5 out of 5 eggsHow to Access Samba Share

Pros: A must have for anyone with a mobile device who needs additional storage. Does everything it says it will do. Last piece of the puzzle was connecting to my hootoo samba share. First make sure your host name follows the note on the host name page and is 2-8 characters with letters numbers and dashes (jct-1233). Confirm your hootoo samba server is enabled under services. Create a folder "Movies" in my example) on your samba server (your HooToo) Then go to your mobile device and enter for windows:

for android //jct-1233/USBDisk1_Volume1/Movies/

Then access via windows and map network drive to save the drive in your directory or add the new server to your android device.

Cons: Battery will charge my nexus 4 but only get 50% with my nexus 7

5 out of 5 eggsCombined with the right software, my new Tripmate is just an incredibly amazing gizmo

Pros: Multiple use gizmo

Power bank
NAS (Network Attached Storage)
Video streamer

Cons: Weak as a repeater

Other Thoughts: How it stacks up:
- Power Bank - 5,200 mAh is impressive for a combination router, charger and NAS. I have power banks with the same size but doesn't do anything except as a plain dumb charger. 5,200 mAh can charge my phone more than 2 times.
- Router - this is very beneficial in places like hotels that doesn't have WiFis but has an ethernet connection. You can plug it and instantly create your own secured WiFi.
- Repeater - If you find any areas in your house where internet connection is spotty, either it is too far from your main router or partially blocked by thick walls, you can strategically place a repeater in between the main router to extend your WiFI signal. Alas, the Tripmate doesn't do well in this area. The range is paltry and it practically dies when it encounter walls. No surprise there as it doesn't have any powerful antennas.
- NAS (Network Attached Storage) - this is where it really shines. I have three kids, 2 boys and a girl, one is a teenager, so naturally they prefer different types of movies. I installed OPlayer App (OPlayer Lite is free with ads and OPlayer HD is 4.99$. If you have multiple iPads on the same account, you only pay one time) and was amazed that it can play almost anything. 80% of my movies are MKVs, some are MP4s, some are MOVs and others are AVIs. They play almost without any buffering. Take note, I don't have 1080P movies in this hard drive (mostly 720P HDs) so I haven't tried if it will have problems playing on multiple devices in Bluray quality. But still, this little device and a hard drive is an amazing portable wireless media player.

Using OPlayer:
- Connect the USB hard drive to Tripmate
- Press the power button for 3 seconds or until the LEDs light up. Wait until the green LED become steady.
- Connect your devices to Tripmate's own WiFi. Password is '11111111'
- Open the OPlayer app and within the apps' menu press the browser (world icon) and type on the URL
- Click Explorer icon on the bottom left (not the Disk). Navigate to your folders and select the movie to watch. Click Open icon on upper right. It will ask you if you want to play or download. Click play. Done.

5 out of 5 eggsA must-have for travelers

Pros: - Strong signal, high speed

- Good functionality: I like all the AP, Router and Bridge modes. It is really handy for securely sharing hotel internet to family devices. Some hotels don't have wireless, and my ultrabook has no RJ45 connector. With this little thing I can connect it to hotel network cable, and all my cellphones/tablets/ultrabooks can serf on internet!

- The battery is really a big plus to the wireless function, you can connect devices no matter where you are. I did that when travel with my family, really really useful.

- Battery is very powerful, can fully charge my iPhone twice.

- At any time you can check how much power the battery left by a single click.

- The disk sharing function is awesome. It's much easier to share big files with my friends in library or anywhere else. I'd prefer it provide a microsd card slot so I don't need to plug out the flash drive each time.

- The seller is very friendly. I had problem make the Bridge mode work and I emailed him and he quickly worked out a new firmware. Update the firmware is super easy and the bridge mode works perfectly. If you buy this product I suggest you ask the seller for the new firmware.

Cons: None at present.

Other Thoughts: I'd prefer a physical switch to select AP/RT/Bridge functions like some other travel routers. But this product is handy enough, so I'd not complain.

It will be perfect if it has a microsd card slot. At present I have to plug-in and plug-out the flash drive repeatedly.

5 out of 5 eggsIt. Just. Works.

Pros: First, shipping was lightning fast.
The retail box was packed securely in a shipping box.

The outter case is smooth, hard plastic and appears to be very well made.

The WiFi\Router feature works great, easy to set up and connect.
NAS feature worked flawlessly with a 100GB 2.5" HDD in an enclosure.
I am using it to charge my (first gen) Nexus 7 now.
Both the Windows and Android software (which can be obtained from their support site) are easy to use, have clear and straight forward UIs and make the setup a breeze.

The .pdf manuals are available from their support site also.

Cons: The ONLY thing that I was not impressed with, was the small print in the manual. Old age is not kind.

Other Thoughts: The features, versatility and quality make this a must have for everyone that has a geek heart.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat customer service

Pros: Seller Sunvalley helped me out with great customer service. My device was the defective item, but Sunvalley immediately sent me a replacement. The replacement device works out of box. Thank you.

Cons: I'm not sure how long battery can hold at this moment. I will test it.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Flexibility

Pros: - works well... immediately recognized wireless networks
- quickly identifiable by wireless devices
- strong signal
- very easy to use for simpler applications
- compact
- self powered

Cons: - could be a little more challenging for less experienced users for complex configuration.

Other Thoughts: The Hootoo products I have tried work well out of the box. This router/switch/battery backup is particularly flexible because it has it's own battery supported power supply - making it useful wherever you are. It also has an AC adapter for continuous "plugged" use or for recharging the internal battery. Perfect for opening a wireless bridge either for protection in public places or to allow open but protected access for guests on your own protected wireless system.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Small and simple, great router for travel plus it has a battery!

Cons: None yet

Other Thoughts: Only get this item if you know how to setup a router and why you should have this device. I wanted this for travel and I am using it for that.

1. This should not be used for a primary router
2. This is not design to "steal" someones internet as you have to have authentication on the network you are using
