1 out of 5 eggsPOC - Do Not Buy

Pros: Flat out Doesn't work. Put 3 different disks in it and it can't say linked long enough to copy a single DVD image (couple of GB). After the USB connection drops, it reconnects. Start a copy - does the same thing. I have it plugged into 2 USB 3 port so it should have all the power it need. No power supply includes so how are you supposed to connect eSATA? No docs included at all. POC!

Cons: Nothing But Cons

Other Thoughts: Yes- why did waste my $$ on this??? It's not like it's worth the cost to ship it back.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for Samsung 840 ProSSD

Pros: It was cheap.

Cons: I hadn't used it for an SSD but have a Samsung 840Pro I needed to try out on my PC. Fits like a glove, no issue there but the pop out arm is below the ssd and so doesn't make contact with it at all. I had to pull it out with a flat screw driver, which for an SSD is not something I ever care to repeat. To the recycling it goes.

I can see the loose connections people are talking about and it is worrying.

1 out of 5 eggsNice if it worked

Pros: Newegg got it out the door same day and fedex got it here a day early.

Design is nice, compact and simple with flexible plates to keep the drive secure and in place (counter to another review that suggests it's just flapping around in there; you'd have to be whacking it good to get much movement from it).

Nice and cheap.

USB3 and eSATA both in the same package, exactly what I was looking for! eSATA for the dedicated bandwidth when working from home and USB3 so it will work with anyone else computer while on the road. Sounds great in theory...

Cons: eSATA, which was one of the main reasons to purchase this enclosure, did not work.

I have the latest drivers, latest SSD firmware, and windows fully updated but the PC would reliably hard-lock during large file transfers (tested with 40 files totaling roughly 60GB). I've tested the same SSD both connected directly internally and with a different enclosure; everything worked fine. Put it back in this one and it hard-locked again.

Other Thoughts: USB3 worked fine.

Latch mechanism is slightly finicky, which is no worry if the drive will reside permanently.
The swing arm used to latch the drive in place is also used to eject it but the piece that juts out to eject it is a hair too small and failed to catch my 840 EVO. Luckily there is enough room to stick a tool in the side and pop it out manually.

Anyone with one that works, make sure you are not plugging in both the blue USB and eSATA at the same time, this would cause the drive to either not appear/mount at all or be another reason for it to disappear aside from that mentioned in another review. The white USB is solely for power, either for the extra juice for spinning drives while using usb3 or to power the drive for eSATA. Plugging everything in at once will only cause problems for the OS since there is no toggle on the enclosure to let you choose which you would like to use. Nothing I've done but see many people do with other enclosures.

I'm probably going to just return this and get a tried-and-true eSATA+USB2 drive with good reviews.

5 out of 5 eggsImpressive for the price.

Pros: Price, portability, tool-less case = no screws to mess with.

Cons: The USB3 connector can easily come off the drive.
USB power leg is a little short. You'll need an extender if your USB port is not in the vicinity.

Other Thoughts: I think the data/power light should be in a location where one can see it regardless of the direction the drive is facing.

2 out of 5 eggshard to swap

Pros: it supports both esata and usb 3.0

Cons: i tried to put a popular intel 520 SSD into it and it took almost an hour just to get it to fit. i had to put it in at exactly the right angle and apply a lot of tension to get the lid to re-close. it would have been MUCH easier to just use a screw system instead of this "hot-swap" idea. i don't know if it's just a problem with the intel 520 SSD, or if the orico case i received was just out of tolerance. i know the intel 520 is 9.5mm, which should be supported by the Orico according to the documentation. i tried testing with a different laptop spinning drive and that one did fit in easier. i dread having to swap that 520 drive again!

Also, now that the SSD is in there, i can hear it flapping around when i tip it over. on one end it's being held in by the SATA/Power connector, but there is nothing to stabilize it on the other end. I will probably end up stuffing some foam in it to keep the drive from flopping around.

5 out of 5 eggsBest External Enclosure for the $$$

Pros: Solid construction, easy to use, perfect size, EVERYTHING is included.

Cons: Documentation

Other Thoughts: If drive in this enclosure "disappears", comes back after re-booting and "disappears" again under Windows 7 check your USB power setting. Look at USB Selective Suspend and Turn Off hard Drive After, under Advanced Power Settings. The protective film for the bottom of the HDD was a nice touch.

4 out of 5 eggsESATA

Pros: Excellent enclosure that works seemlessly. Just plug and play. I've not used the data migration CD yet but will soon.

Cons: I can't seem to make the ESATA work. It doesn't power up and there is no connection for external power supply. My laptop has USB/ESATA combo so it has power.
