Can I use this device to watch videos/movies from the SD card to iPad where I have no access to Wi-Fi like airport, airplane, road trips, hotels with no free Wi-Fi?

That is one of the major things this portable WiFi device was made to do:  stream movies, music, data files, whatever.  Just make sure the video files on the SD card are in a format that is readable to your iPad.  All of my devices are android, but the premise is the same for Apple devices as well.  Just make sure that you connect to the RAV device as your wifi connection in your iPad setup.  And, make sure you are using the latest app for the device from the App Store or download it directly from the RAVPower website.

I want to use this device for storage, saving, editing word documents, excel documents and PDF documents. I am not interested in story pictures, videos, or music on this device. although I may a little. Will this device do the job I want? Thank you for your time and effort in helping me.

Jim, the RavPower does provide the ability to store MS Word & Excel documents, PDFs or anything else you would normally store on a computer (including music or movies). There isn't any editing software on the RavPower. To edit documents, you would open them up with the appropriate application on your computer (Word Excel etc).

Note that this model of RavPower doesn't have storage space built into it. It has a USB port that you use to plug in a USB stick or hard drive, which is then accessible from your computer like a normal network share or from an iPod/iPad/iPhone or Android tablet / phone using the app from the app store.

In a nutshell, the RavPower creates a WiFi network that you join to with your laptop, phone, tablet etc. You can then access whatever files you have stored on the USB drive that is plugged into the RavPower.

Question 3

This seems too good to be true! Two questions though: 1) Can I use the RAVPower without any other network involved? Let's say I'm at my dentist's office an hour early for my appointment, want to get some work done, and don't have access to her network. Does the mini wifi connection I make between my Windows 8 laptop and the RAVPowersuffice? Or did I need to go ask my dentist for her wifi password?

2) I want to be sure I'm not trying to use the RAVPower to do what it wasn't made for: I simply want to plug in an SD card (is there a max GB?) and use it as a hard drive, plain and simple, not needing any additional software interface to run it. It sounds like it simply shows up as a network drive once configured in Win 8. That's great. So can the software be used initially for startup, then no longer be needed since Win 8 will simply see it on bootup or when the unit is powered on?

1 - You don't need any other network involved.  You just connect to the RavPower via WiFi and it will show up as a network drive.  The RavPower can connect to a available network and then route that connection to any device connected to it.  That way you can access your SD or USB and have a internet connection.

2 - No software is needed.  For setup just connect to the RavPower with  and punch in the IP 10.10.10.254 in your browser.  Default password is 11111111 for the WiFi connection so you may want to change that and the SSID for security.

Per the user manual it stats that it supports up to 64GB SDXC Cards for the SD Slot.  As well as 2.5GB for a USB External Drive.

Hello! I've had my device for about a year now and I love it! One question though: how come it will read and transfer data into one external hard drive and not the other? I'm able to copy data into my WD passport without problems but it doesn't seem to be able to do that on my Seagate external drive. Please help. Thanks!

There could be several reasons. Maybe the file systems formatted on the drives are different. Check what the Ravpower supports. For sure it can write to FAT and NTFS. Drives quite often require different amounts of power. If the battery is low, a drive might not fully spin-up and maybe shuts itself off. Make sure the other drive is indeed correctly formatted and can be written via a laptop.

is this product compatible with the iphone 6?

There is no reason why it should not work. the AirStor app works perfectly on iOS 8 on my iPhone 5, and the backup power supply feature just needs a lightening cable.

Question 6

Why does the app say that I have nothing on my phone?

That depends on what you mean by "nothing on your phone?" On the "My Device" tab, does it show anything at all? Are there folders? The folders will be empty because your music, movies, etc. aren't stored in those folders, they are stored in iTunes, Videos, and the like. If you want to listen or watch something stored on your phone, use the apps you normally use for those. Use AirStor to play files stored on your WiFi disk.

I was hoping to use the ravpower to upload music to my iPhone without iTunes. Can it be used to put photos and music directly onto an iPhone or iPad?

Looks like you can only do photosand other files, not music, unless I am missing something...I tried to look at music files on the Apple device using the file share app and they were not listed.

Maybe someone else has a workaround, but the only way I have been able to bypass iTunes is to use a third-party program on Windows (Copy Trans Control).

Question 8

1. I may have an unusual requirement. I need to use the RAVPower to copy the data off of my MicroSDXC cards and onto a harddrive. I won't have a computer (I'll be 22 days away from power and civilization, so I'll be charging my electronics with a solar panel with no connectivity [cell or satellite]), but I could use my cell phone to initiate and manage the transfer, if necessary (ideally, this device would do it without the phone connection). Does this device provide that functionality?

2. What I would like to do is plug an external harddrive and my MicroSDXC card into a battery-powered host-device (a. This device?) and press a button on it to move data from the MicroSDXC card onto the harddrive. I do not want to use a separate phone/tablet/computer to control the transfer (too many batteries to keep charged). b. Does any device like that exist?

That is a challenge. Offline cloning devices, meant to copy hard drive to hard drive, destroy any existing data on the destination device. E.g. instead of copying pics from my flash card to a hard drive each day, each copy would overwrite everything already on the hard drive and I would end up only having the final day's pics - not good!

Question 9

So exactly HOW do you transfer photos from an SD card in the FileHub to an external hard disc linked via the USB connection? Sadly RAVPower Support have been anything but, supportive that is - no response to repeated requests. My problem is that when I link the hard disc (Seagate Slim) to the Filehubnd then review the Airstor app on my iPhone the only references relate to my iPhone and the Filehub, not to the Slim. In other words I can’t instigate the transfer from card to Slim as all management instruction relates only to iPhone or Filehub (and can readily transfer photos to iPhone or iPad) - I guess I'm missing something simple, but what?!

Others have answered that you need to either use a browser or an app on the tablet, phone etc. to accomplish what you want.  Look through the previously submitted questions.  I haven't tried to do what you are asking about, but I would think you could just mount the USB drive and insert the card into a computer and transfer any files with much less trouble.

How do I download a movie into My Hub from Itunes store?  I want it on my RAVpower and not on my Ipad
