Do you have to purchase Microsoft office separate, or does it come pre loaded on?

I cancelled this purchase once I realized this laptop doesn't fold back completely... it only folds back 300degrees... into a "stand" formation... and not completely into tablet formation.

but in response to your Question, I'd tell you that in my experience NO computers "come with" microsoft office these days, it's a separate product

There is no supplemental or optical DVD drive. Many laptops do not offer this in recent times, to keep it lighter and less prone to failure. A good option is to add an external drive ...or look for another model.

Is there a Thunderbolt port?

NO! USB3 &2,  I tried a Logitech unifying receiver for a Logitech trackball.  Will not work on the Lenovo.

Being a MAC user, I would like a Thunderbolt port.  I wanted to add a Blue-Ray writer to the Lenovo, seems like nothing but trouble to add a DVD to WIN 8.1

It has 3 USB ports. There is no DVD drive so you have to buy an external disk drive. I personally have not found this to be a problem. Overall it is a great laptop.

YES, and it will disconnect if ethernet cable plugged in, Not like WIN 7 with PPPoE error651!!!

It comes pre-installed with Windows 8 - if you dislike W8, I'd pay the extra for 7pro. Just a choice to make, not a requirement.
