Is it still good to be used as a desktop operating system hard drive?

This drive will be fine to use in a desktop or laptop computer as long as you are using Windows 7 or newer operating system that can recognize that it is a SSD drive.  The operating system's ability to recognize the drive as a SSD drive is important so that the OS will not automatically run disk defrags, etc..   With SSD there is no need for most disk utilities as the drive will maintain itself.

If you are not familiar with SSD drives, spend a few minutes reading about them so you know how to take care of one.

Also note that if your desktop does not have a 2.5" bay then you will need a drive bay adapter.

There's nothing special about any SSD that prevents it from going into a desktop system, except for the mounting - desktops didn't traditionally have a place for a 2.5" drive, although it's been a while since I bought a case so I don't know if that's changed. You can get a bracket that will allow it to mount in a 3.5" space. The other SSD I bought for a recent desktop upgrade came with a bracket included.

Question 3

Does this come with hard drive cloning software and cable to facilitate cloning of existing drive. If not, which manufacturers include this, Samsung?

It does not come with those accessories. You can go old school, both drives attached (desktop, not laptop) but it's tricky since this is probably smaller than your old drive. Some software will allow you to shrink partitions to make it fit. Sometimes (usually) a fresh install will be the best option. This will usually be smaller, cleaner and faster than a cloned OS. I recently tried to do a MS backup image and restore, but it reported errors and failed. There were no errors reported during backup image process. If you have a laptop, the USB cable looks like a cool gadget to have. Naturally, Newegg has those too!

There is no reason why i couldn't put this in a desket top setting is there?!

I see no reason why this SSD would NOT work in your desktop. My use was for a Toshiba laptop that was only SATA II, and I accomplished a Windows 7/ MEPIS Linux dual boot across it with no problems. Fast boots, fast installs/ uninstalls, fast data accesing. Just works!

Short answer: yes-- it'll work-- and you'll likely see marked improvement, especially when booting the OS and loading heavy applications.

Long answer: I'm having trouble finding the exact specs for the exact type of SATA your lappy supports, but you shouldn't have a problem. Pretty much any personal computer built in the past few years will have SATA drives, and all types of SATA are compatible with one another. If your lappy doesn't have SATA III (this drive supports SATA III), I'm sure it at least has SATA II, so at worst this'll have SATA II bandwidth of 3Gbps (~300 MB/s). Though you miss out on some theoretical speed (this says it can read up to 530 MB/s),  it'll still be loads better than a standard 5,000 RPM 2.5-inch hard drive.  And again, if your lappy has SATA III, you'll get to use the entire theoretical bandwidth. And judging by when this model was released, I'm betting it supports SATA III.

Nope, it should work straight out of the box, after formatting the drive of course. Haven't had any issues with it since I got it over 6 months ago

Will work in both Desktop and Laptop computers. Will not fit in most Tablet computers. This SSD is provided with a spacer for a snug fit if used in a larger 3.5 space or to replace a regular HDD.

Question 10

Would there be a benefit to getting this SSD, if a motherboard (a) has an Intel H61 chipset, which does not support AHCI, and B) is only SATA II compatible? Or will non-AHCI and non-SATA III, cripple the SSD’s functionality in a system to a point that the cost does not justify the benefit in increased performance, if any? If the SSD was utilized for such a motherboard, would a user see a noticeable performance improvement, if any?

I would advise against it.  For two months I've been fighting with this SSD not cooperating with my PC's power management.  Every time that I put my computer to sleep, the drive is lost from the computer, and it does not show back up until I restart the OS.  At first I thought the drive was faulty, so I replaced it through Newegg, but the replacement does the same thing.  My first communication from SanDisk told me the rote answer to enable active AHCI of the OS (I had a defective SSD from OCZ a couple years ago, and they told me the same exact thing which accomplished nothing).  However, I am thinking that the PC I am using now does not support AHCI, as I updated the bios and all, but AHCI is still not an option in the power management.

My fear a this point is that the drive is incompatible with my motherboard on account of AHCI support.  That said, I cannot actually speak to the benefits you might notice if you get it to work.
