1 out of 5 eggsStay away from this SSD

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Price?

Cons: As another reviewer stated "The switch to asynchronous NAND from synchronous NAND was made after months of reviews (both professional and amateur) had established this as an excellent product." The performance of this drive is severely hampered compared to that of more favorable reviews. It's the same model but the hardware has changed.

Other Thoughts: TL;DR Yes it's an SSD, but you won't get typical SSD performace if you receive the model with 5.06 firmware. Also take note: Non-refundable - Limited Replacement Only Return Policy. Don't get stuck with this drive like I have.

2 out of 5 eggsNot the same drive that was sent to reviewers.

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Inexpensive

Cons: 90MB/s sustained write, 150MB/s sustained read speeds. The unit sent to review sites did 300-500MB/s. Bait-n-switch IMO.

Other Thoughts: There's nothing wrong with my system, that's the speed of the drive doing regular file transfers (big files). I have a Toshiba 19nm enterprise drive that does 500MB/s read/write speeds no problem on this same system.

Sour taste in my mouth on this product from Kingston. I'm not going to fuss over it with them, I can live with the drive for $60, but buyer beware. This is a slow SSD by todays standards, very slow. (My 4 year old mechanical 7200rpm drive has better write speeds).

1 out of 5 eggsBAD!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: NONE

Cons: This thing is slow and I mean sloooow getting these SSDs is like playing the slots you either get one that runs at the rated speeds or most likely you get one that can't even get over 200mb/s avoid these just get a samsung evo or something that cost just about the same...jeez never again will I buy from kingston

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. The V300 drive should perform at 450MB/s in ATTO Benchmark. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine what is causing the slow speeds. If the drive is not performing to it's advertised specifications, it can be replaced under warranty. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

3 out of 5 eggsslowest SSD i have ever tried

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: - a step up from spindle drives
- seems a bit resilient. seems to be pretty solid.
- coworkers have had this SSD before, stating it was reliable, i believe that this is true from what i've seen.
- price was a huge factor for me.

Cons: - Slowest SSD i have ever tried, had speeds more similar to a 10krpm velociraptor than a SSD.
- Did not come with alot of extra goodies like mounting trays, etc.
- Came in a blisterpack. i hate blisterpacks.
- Instructions are non-existent, no installation dvd for firmware flashing, etc. (not really a con for me)

Other Thoughts: I have been fiddling around with SSD's for a while. One consistent thing is that reliability has been horrible. i dont see that with this drive...but i do see a performance hit for that reliability. I was extremely disappointed with the performance. as long as it stays reliable i will be fine with my purchase, but i didnt know SSD's ever got this slow.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Charles,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer our assistance. We are here to help and can verify if the drive is performing properly or not. If not, we can troubleshoot to find out what may be causing the issue such as settings in the BIOS, driver issues, or possible system limitations. If the drive itself is not performing properly, it can be replaced under it's three year warranty as well. Also, the V300 is available in a bundle package that includes a mounting tray, required screws, and an installation DVD that has PDF and video instructions as well as boots up into Acronis TruImage cloning software. For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you. Please be sure to have the part in question on hand when you call.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsGood SSD

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Great value for what it is.
It has been very solid.
I have 3 of these, 2 working in RAID0.
can fit ultrabooks with HDD.

Cons: non

Other Thoughts: This thing is not HyperX but you can't really complaint with this price tag.

5 out of 5 eggsSpeedy

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Benchmark speeds rival anything available even SSD drives connected directly through PCIe. Amazing!

Great Price!

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is the perfect drive to use as a boot device for your operating system, especially with windows 7 and 8 installs taking up 40GB with minimum programs installed and updates enabled. Blazing fast boot ups and installs.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's Kingston Good!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Good speed.
Easy setup.
Recognized by BIOS on first install.
Still going after all this time

Cons: Doesn't come with a Kingston SSD sticker to put on the side of my computer, the Samsung drive does, but its' sticker is ugly....

Other Thoughts: Windows is a bloated system that does not have the capability to run drives near their maximum speed. If you get half or better on reads, you've done good. If you get third to quarter on writes, you're good also. But it's still a lot faster than the platter drives! You can tweak windows a little but Ubuntu/Linux is what you need to get good speeds out of a drive, and all that software is free!
