5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy install. Really fast. Boosted an old build.

Cons: No cables. (Not really a con as it is standard now.)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent drive

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast.
A significant difference in speed vs 7200 RPM HDD in RAID_0+1 mode, though latter is twice more fast than regular single HDD.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Would like it be a bit cheaper, under $100

4 out of 5 eggsLong term update

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Low price
Not the best performance, but you won't notice it (entitlement much?)

Cons: firmware issues

Other Thoughts: I have been having issues with both my v300 series SSDs (a 120GB and a 240GB) where Windows hangs up, and upon restart, neither SSD is recognized by the BIOS. Troubleshooting ensued, and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth.

The problem seems to have been solved by updating both drives to the latest 525ABBF0 firmware (after previously having shed many a nerdy tear over 505 vs 506 firmware issues). The firmware updates via special software that can be found on Kingston's website. It worked without complaint.

Points to Kingston for fixing the problem, and slaps on the wrist for the problem existing in the first place.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome deal and blazing fast!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast, reliable and a great buy! Can't say much more than that. The SSD works as intended, Windows loads in less than 16 seconds, programs launch extremely fast.

Cons: Notta.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK!!!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None as I can't even say the low price is advantage. I have one of these in my 17" Alienware gaming laptop as a second drive to store my steam games to. I mention the type of laptop it is to point out that it's more than powerful enough to play Skyrim in ultra detail settings. While I was play skyrim the game would constantly freeze for about 10-15 seconds and then continue playing great. At first I didn't understand, so I eventually turned my graphics all the way down which had no effect on my freezing problem. As I continued playing I noticed the freezing seemed to coincide with loading as I ventured into new areas in the game. The drive benchmarked good, although throughput was half of advertised, so I never suspected the drive. After transferring the game from this SSD to the mechanical hard drive in the laptop the game began to run flawless even at its current ultra setting. Battlefield has similar problems that have been solved by changing drives as well.

Cons: Not as fast as advertised, although still benchmarks way faster than traditional laptop hard drives, however I could live with slower since I bought it cheap on sale. What I can't live with is it making my games unplayable.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the V300 drive. We perform 100% testing on all of our products to ensure quality and reliability, detailed here: http://www.kingston.com/us/company/testing . Our advertise specification of 450MB/s is found testing with industry standard ATTO benchmark which is uses compressible data in it's benchmarking workload. We have also included additional benchmarking results for incompressible data on our datasheet, found here: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/sv300s3_us.pdf . Benchmark utilities like CrystalDiskMark and AS SSD use incompressible data workloads which produce different results. Considering the drive is still performing faster than the HDD according to benchmarks but is locking up there may be something off with the drive. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to find the best solution. If needed the drive can be replaced under it's three year warranty. For assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent price for a decent SSD

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Its cheap, the speed is better than a traditional magnetic disk drive.

Cons: The speed isn't up to par with other SSDs out there but then again you aren't paying a premium for the speed like you would with other drives

5 out of 5 eggsgreat drive for under $100.

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: fast and price right onsale

Cons: does not come with 2.5 to 3.5 in adapter need to mount it correctly in MOST desktops. The OCZ does come with it.

Other Thoughts: makes a pentium4 as fast or faster then many newer pc's as long as it has a SATA connection

5 out of 5 eggsAs expected

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/240G 2.5" 240GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: A good HDD goes unnoticed. I'm not terribly interested in the elaborate benchmarking of the drive. I upgraded from a 7200 RPM drive expecting the PC to be more responsive and it did just that. The most noticeable performance boost was playing late-game turns in Civilization 5 with a full map.

Cons: Like I said, the drive goes unnoticed so I guess there aren't any cons.
