5 out of 5 eggsAwesome Switch

Pros: Worked right out of the box
All ports functional and in use
Plug and play (no configuration)
Good price

Cons: None really, Not really I just wish I could of gotten the bigger switch.
only 10/100 Not a 10/100/1000 but Most people including myself would not even utilize 100mbit. But that could change depending on my usage.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend this product if you plan on using the amount of ports it provides or less.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks like a charm!

Pros: Super easy to set up, just connect to your router, then use the extra 4 outlets for other pc's: desktops or laptops. $4 after rebate! What a steal! How can you go wrong? Should have bought a switch a long long time ago. We'll see for longevity, but, if it lasted me a year, I'd still be happy.

Cons: Well, not too much of a con, but you do lose a port. Would be cool if the port was in the back so you'd have 5 ports, instead of 4...not a horrible con, though

Other Thoughts: I'm super happy with this product, and for me, repairing computers, and I don't have to put those computers on my wifi is awesome! Was so simple to set up, no cd's, no downloads, nada. Plug n play, and ready to go!

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent product - Terrible customer support

Pros: Works great
Effortless set-up
Easy installation - Mounting
Quality material construction.

Cons: Customer support is (big surprise) terrible

Other Thoughts: My main complaint regards the Mail-in Rebate.
Netgear engages in the sinister practice of baiting consumers with mail in rebate offer ($10-50%) and then making it difficult and time consuming to redeem your rebate.
For one thing, why mail in? Snail mail Really that's what a top vendor of tech hardware chooses?

The rebate form doesn't come in the packaging, of course. You must know enough to return to the online vendor and find a link to the form. This link is obscure and not in the proximity of the rebate offer and displayed as a few words of 7pt text.

1. Fill in the form EXACTLY. I'm sure they deny many forms for minor errors.
2. You may only claim one rebate per submission.
3. Request must be postmarked to within 30 days of expiration of offer.
4. Must include ENTIRE ORIGINAL UPC LABEL + part # + S/N + copy of complete invoice/in store receipt.
* make sure you get all the above correct or it is grounds to refuse rebate. request.

It is very clear that Netgear's marketing/sales strategy counts on a % of consumers to NEVER redeem their rebates.
In fact, states that over $500 million in rebates go unclaimed every year.
Good luck getting your mail-in rebates.

5 out of 5 eggsIt's a 10/100 switch--yay!

Pros: Metal housing, compact size, very good price on sale.

Cons: It was not free! And it cannot cook dinner.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this switch to add capacity to my network for some older 10/100 devices. Instead of taking up ports on my gigabit switch for devices that can communicate only at slower speeds, they are all now connected to this switch, which connects to a single port on my gigabit switch. This was an affordable way for me to add just a bit more capacity without having to change a bunch of other stuff.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks as it should

Pros: Will be a steal once I get rebate...

Cons: Wish it was a Gigabit 10/100/1000...

Other Thoughts: For $5 new and delivered I can't really complain!

5 out of 5 eggsPlug and play power

Pros: - Small and light, easy to place anywhere
- A good workaround to not having to place cables of 20 meters in your ceiling
- Cute if you stick googly eyes on it

Cons: - Does not come with googly eyes

4 out of 5 eggsQuality Switch, Steel Case, and No Setup Required

Pros: It doesn't get any easier than this, just plug in the power and the Ethernet cords, and you're done. The metal case is a nice touch. It gives it a sturdier construction, and the extra weight helps it to stay in place. Sometimes the weight of the attach cords will tilt or pull a switch off of a desk/shelf.

I've been using this and other Netgear switches for years. I have not had any issues with them.

The electrical ground pin on the chassis is a nice touch. It's not something you see all the time, but it's there if you need to use it.

Lifetime warranty is always a plus.

Cons: This is just a 100 Mbps switch, not a 1 Gbps Gigabit switch. This isn't as big of a con as many make it out to be, depending on the application. If this is used in a home, a regular user or family would never be able to max out the bandwidth on a 100 Mbps switch. Even most small offices wouldn't be able to max out a 100 Mbps switch. The only annoyance I come across when not using a Gigabit switch is that some other connected devices like modems and Gigabit firewalls/routers/switches will use an orange light instead of a green light to designate the slower connected device or may blink annoyingly to constantly remind you that a non-Gigabit device is connected.

Other Thoughts: Take notice that the power cord and Ethernet ports are on opposite sides. The status lights are all on the Ethernet ports themselves. For some applications this type of a setup is an advantage and for others it is a disadvantage. So you may want to get the type that will fit best for your setup.

If you are planning to use this, or any other switch, to connect to a modem to distribute Internet connections, I would recommend using a firewall instead to connect to the modem. With all the personal information that is stored on computers, transferred online, and the ever growing list of Internet connected smart devices, it's really to your benefit to have the layer of security that a firewall provides.

5 out of 5 eggsLying PSU

Pros: Excellent solution for lightning-fast LAN nights!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This switch does NOT require exactly 7V to operate. It you lose your power supply, it's happy running on anything between 3 and 12V (maybe more, I don't remember the regulator chip inside). Just make sure to get the polarity right, of course!

5 out of 5 eggsGood for the price paid

Pros: Sturdy case and compact. It is ncie that is square and not a weird oval shape like some out there.

Cons: I wish the rebate would be good for 2 or more of these.
