4 out of 5 eggsGreat switch for large home networks

Pros: Great switch for large home networks. If you want a managed switch this price point and functionality is perfect for me.

Cons: It lost it's IP address once, I am not sure why as I had saved the configuration.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Switch

Pros: VLAN tagging, port mirroring, rack mountable, quiet, reliable. This switch does what its supposed to do. I have yet to blame this switch for any problem I have found on my network. Well organized interface. Haven't had to power cycle it yet.

Cons: Directions don't explain VLAN as well as some others do. I am annoyed at the "Voice VLAN" and "surveillance VLAN" that OEMs keep adding to these switches. I think this is just a gimmick and I don't like it. Well actually I think it does give you the ability to add a priority on one of your VLANs. Still seems gimmicky.

Other Thoughts: It has helped me experiment, and find better solutions to my topology. The one thing that bothers me is if this switch powers up and no DHCP is available, it will use its factory default IP. Then after the DHCP server is up, you will be stuck scratching your head as to why you cannot access your switch. This was bought to replace a Netgear. I think this switch performs far superior.

5 out of 5 eggsI like it

Pros: Low cost, easy setup, port mirroring, Time Domain Reflectometry, all ports are gigabit.

Cons: More expensive than an unmanaged switch. But well worth it.

Other Thoughts: This is my first managed switch. It replaces two 8-port unmanaged gigabit switches from D-Link, which combined were over $100, plus it replaces a crummy old hub which I needed to tap the ports I wanted to monitor with Wireshark. The additional features make it great value in comparison.

The mirroring feature lets me watch any port I like with Wireshark without fiddling around with cables. Plus the very first time I looked at the management console I noticed a faulty cable that was only running at 100mbps when the ports were gigabit capable. I guess I could have noticed this by studying the LEDs on the old switch, but it jumped out at me in the management console.

I ran the cable diagnostics on the bad cable and it showed it as only having one pair connected. If the cable had been longer it would have shown how far down the cable the break was, since it has Time Domain Reflectometry.

The dynamic MAC forwarding table is a fascinating window into the network topology.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat features, great price

Pros: Inexpensive managed switch with 16 10/100/1000 interfaces. Very easy to install, and the web interface is very intuitive.

Cons: It doesn't seem to support HTTPS management, and no apparent command line access. Not knocking an egg for this, as it's a cheap managed switch.

Once I explore more and fine it does have these capabilities, I'll update the review.

Other Thoughts: I haven't had it for very long, but so far it provides excellent features for such a low price. I'm very impressed.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought these to replace 2 aging HUBS (yes you read that right) that were still running on our network. They are easy to configure via web interface and have quite a few management capabilities. For my use I didn't need them at this time but who knows when QOS or a vlan might be needed. Also the price is wonderful, only a bit more than an unmanaged I bought a few months back, and the service from newegg was exceptional as always.

Cons: I got nothing for you here. I don't know how they will handle under a heavy load but for a local network they are quick enough.
