Detailed Maps with Free Updates

nüvi 2797LMT arrives with a bright 7.0" high-resolution display and loaded with detailed maps of North America. With free lifetime¹ map updates, your routes are sure to reflect the most up-to-date maps, POIs (points of interest) and navigation information. New maps are available for download with no fees.

With so much data, nüvi 2797LMT makes it easy to find addresses and millions of POIs such as businesses, stores, restaurants and other destinations. nüvi 2797LMT arrives preloaded with POIs, so there's no need for you to enter that address information. Just select one - or many - and navigate there, quickly and easily. You also have the ability to add custom POIs to your nüvi 2797LMT.

Garmin Traffic

nüvi 2797LMT features Garmin Traffic to help you spend more time on the move. With Garmin Traffic, your driving map remains onscreen at all times. Traffic alerts appear to the side of your map and messages are spoken, too. Garmin Traffic can give details about the situation, such as how many minutes of delay to expect and if there are any possible detours. It can even confirm whether or not you are on the fastest route. Garmin Traffic is voice activated, so it responds to spoken requests. Lifetime traffic² entitles your nüvi 2797LMT to receive free traffic information for its entire useful life.

The Power of Your Voice

nüvi 2797LMT has the luxury of voice-activated navigation. Speak, and your device intelligently responds; your hands can remain safely on the wheel. Of course, you can also navigate using the touchscreen interface.

Bluetooth® Compatible

Sync a Bluetooth-enabled device, such as your smartphone, to nüvi 2797LMT for hands-free calling through its integrated microphone and speaker. Safely stow your phone in a glove compartment, pocket or purse and still make and take calls without moving your hands from the steering wheel or your eyes from the road.

Smartphone Link Compatible

Smartphone Link is a free mobile app that connects your nüvi 2797LMT with your iPhone® or Android™ smartphone. When paired, your nüvi 2797LMT can use your phone's existing data plan³ to share information - such as where you parked, POIs and your destination.

Smartphone Link also gives you access to Garmin Live Services4, useful real-time information such as weather and traffic conditions. Garmin Live Services are available free and by subscription.

Garmin Real Directions™ with Garmin Real Voice™

nüvi 2797LMT redefines "spoken turn-by-turn directions" with Garmin Real Directions, easy-to-understand driving directions that guide like a friend, using recognizable landmarks, buildings and traffic lights. No more stress from trying to read street names. Garmin Real Voice is refined speech technology that sounds more like a natural, friendly voice. Garmin Real Directions and Garmin Real Voice are features that are only available in our line of GPS navigators.

Comprehensive Driving Guidance You See and Hear

Active Lane Guidance with voice prompts prepares you to drive through an exit or interchange with confidence. As you approach, an animated model uses brightly colored arrows to indicate the proper lane needed for your route; a friendly voice offers additional help. Bird's Eye junction view offers a detailed view of interchanges, looking down as if from overhead. PhotoReal junction view realistically displays junctions and interchanges along your route, including the surrounding landscape. Brightly colored arrows indicate the proper lane to drive. nüvi 2797LMT also depicts real road signs as they appear along your route.

More Information at a Glance

nüvi 2797LMT keeps your driving map onscreen at all times and additional information appears alongside. For details, simply ask or touch the screen. As you drive your route, Up Ahead constantly informs you of nearby services, including restaurants, fuel stations, hospitals and stores.

nüvi 2797LMT displays speed limit, current speed and accurate time of arrival. With a quick glance, you can read the name of your current street. nüvi 2797LMT also shows school zone warnings.

One-Stop Device Management

Use Garmin Express to keep your nüvi up-to-date. Garmin Express makes it easy to update maps and software, transfer favorites to and from devices, and install free custom vehicles and voices.

5 out of 5 eggsGarmin got this one right

Pros: Large screen, large text. Easy to read, even without glasses, even in bright sunlight. Power cord attaches to the mount, not the unit directly, which is a huge plus, and the mount disconnect button system is really good.

Directions are optimal 99% of the time. Map update times are not bad (~30 minutes) if you have a fast internet connection.

Cons: This is my fourth GPS unit, and easily the best one I've ever had (versus other Garmin/TomTom).

They could have made getting to Recent or Favorite routes easier/faster, but this is a very minor thing.

Other Thoughts: I would guess if you don't ever use the unit, or leave it in the sun in your vehicle all day, the battery will be compromised. This goes for any electronics with Li-ion batteries, so hard to believe people knock it down for this.

2 out of 5 eggsETA and Live Traffic Update stopped after 1 year

Pros: This is my third Garmin GPS unit. I like the bigger screen and the speed is acceptable. It links up to the web update service quite easily.

Cons: After one year the ETA (Estimated Arrival Time) feature plus the Lifetime Traffic Update stopped dead while on the road in Tennessee. I want the basic required ETA display/info back on my machine at the very least. If it takes another software then I urge Garmin to get it solved fast. Until then I am going to be a very unhappy Garmin customer.

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: Nothing ...nothing at all.

Cons: Never did work

Other Thoughts: Bought the 2797LMT in May 2013, and used it once that year for one day to guide me in locating houses that I was looking to buy. Upon returning home I put the 2797LMT back in the its box and placed it in my chifferobe. This month, Aug. 2014, took the unit and tried to use it but, it would not even turn on even though it was plugged into the cigarette lighter in the car.

Called Garmin support the next day, explained the problem, and was informed that the unit needed to have the battery charged and that it would take 8 to 12 hours to reach a full charge. So, at 9 a.m. I plugged the unit into the computer, turned the monitor off, and waited 12 hours. At 9 P.M. disconnected the unit, pushed the on button, and got nothing but a logo screen that flashed for about 3 seconds.

Called support again, was instructed to try several different methods of start processes, but still nothing but a logo screen flash. It was suggested by support that the unit needs to be sent back for repair and because it is out of warranty ( 1 year from the purchase date) the repair cost would be over $100. In addition I might not get my unit back, but may get a refurbished one or may be a new one. I scoffed at the repair cost, then explained that I would rather go back to using my laptop and Microsoft ‘s Streets and Trips 2013 instead. She then stated that a s a courtesy she could reduce that repair cost to $54.

After paying over $320 for this product, I would expect a longer warranty, no repair cost, and a new replacement not a refurbished unit.

Note to Garmin: Sell the refurbish units as B stock at a reduced price like most other companies do. As an example I COAST flashlights have a lifetime warranty and only charge for return shipping which is only around $5.50. EVGA sends out a new video card if the card is still covered and sells the refurbished unit in the B stock store.

I am disappointed and expected a product that works, but that said I also know that things sometimes fail. My major disappointment is the lack of a longer warranty, repair cost, and possibility of having the unit being replaced with a refurbished one.

Would I recommend this Garmin product? No.

1 out of 5 eggsEarly Death Battery Not Covered by Warranty

Pros: Overall, quite a good GPS device

Cons: Poor warranty terms and lack of spares on Garmin's website.

Other Thoughts: After less than 6 months, the internal lithium-polymer battery (part # 361-00066-00) in my Garmin 2797 LMT died. Garmin's 12 month Limited Warranty is lame and excludes "consumable parts, such as batteries", which is poor for a unit that costs $250.

I was unable to find a replacement battery on Garmin's website. Google found part # 361-00066-00 at a well known auction site and for about $14, I got a new one. To replace the battery you'll need some tools: A T-6 torx bit to undo the ten small screws around the back of the case. A piece of thin, hard plastic. A short (about 3 inches long), thin (1/8th inch), flat-blade screwdriver.

Remove the 10 torx screws at the back of the case. Run the plastic 'pick' around the seam between the two halves of the case -- press it into the crack and gently twist all the way around to separate the two halves of the unit. Open the case carefully because there's a ribbon wire harness inside that links the two halves.

Pull the battery connector upwards using its wires (the connector is a push-on, rather than a plug-in type). The battery is held in the case with a piece of plastic, coated on both sides with very sticky adhesive. It has to be removed carefully to avoid breaking the Nuvi's thin plastic case.

Insert the thin flat-blade screwdriver below the corner of the battery next to the strongest part of its recess (there's a rounded plastic web in one corner of the battery pocket) and gently lever downwards on the screwdriver handle. You should hear the sound of adhesive releasing. As the adhesive starts to yield, push the screwdriver blade in a bit more and continue with gentle downwards pressure on the screwdriver handle. After a few minutes, all the adhesive should have yielded and the battery can be removed and replaced. Press the two halves of the case gently back together and carefully tighten the 10 torx screws.

5 out of 5 eggsAlternative GPS to Factory Units

Pros: Massive screen size, Free Lifetime Map and Traffic Updates, easy software interface, smartphone integration, informative display, accurate traffic update, user friendly and reasonably priced.

Cons: Display not as sharp, no case, no password protection

Other Thoughts: This is definitely a very nice and way cheaper alternative to any vehicles factory GPS option. I've used a few Garmin units in the past and they continue to deliver exceptional value. I would like to see that they bring back the password protection feature to discourage thieves.

5 out of 5 eggsGarmin nuvi 2797LMT

Pros: Larger screen size is easy to read. Map update works great. Hands free voice activation is well worth having.

Cons: Larger size might block some of your view if used in a smaller vehicle. This thing is the size of a small tablet...!
