Does this also work with SSD type HardDrives?

While I haven't yet tried this device, I see no reason why an SSD shouldn't work. They are supposed to be totally plug compatible with regular 2 1/2" hard drives.

How well does the clone function work? Will it create a partition on the cloned hard drive or will it just copy the files from the original over to the new one?

it will create a partition if the destination is larger then it will show the left over space as unallocated you would have to create a new partition of that one then extend it for the extra space or you can leave it as another partition letter. If you have more than one partition on the source they will be created on the destination. I believe the destination drive has to be the same size or larger then the source it cannot be smaller.

The ORICO 6628SUSC-BK supports two 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA I, SATA II, or SATA III hard disk drives or solid state disks, each with a maximum capacity up to 4TB; the total capacity can be expanded to 8TB. Its tool-free design allows you to mount or unmount the drive, without tools or screws, in just three seconds. The USB 2.0 and eSATA dual high speed port offers fast, reliable, and easy connectivity. It is ready for a hard drive stand-alone clone, which allows you to duplicate the source hard drive in the HDD1 slot to target the hard drive in the HDD2 slot without connecting the dock to the computer.
