2 out of 5 eggsCheap but fails in a very important area

Pros: The set up from my Nook HD+ was fine; I had to use Chrome browser instead of the Chromecast app.

Netflix and YouTube worked right out of the box!

Cons: Ironically Google Play Music and Movies DO NOT WORK! This is an example of irony because one would think that Google would make streaming device that worked flawlessly with its own revenue generating services. Watching Google Play movies on my TV was the main reason to purchase this widget, so I am disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsWoo!

Pros: I use it mainly for YouTube and Plex Media Server. Both work flawlessly. I've used it for Netflix too and it worked fine, but having a smart tv, I just go through the TV apps for everything else.

When I have company over, it's convenient to remotely play music videos or music via YouTube or Plex. It just works for me with minimal configuration.

Cons: I wish more apps supported chromecast. Also, it would be nice if it would remember what TV you stream most to. I accidentally send videos to the wrong TV sometimes lol...

3 out of 5 eggsGreat idea, could use more tweaking

Pros: The pricepoint is nice for what they're trying to accomplish.

Cons: The idea behind the Chromecast is great, but the implementation could be a whole lot better.
Every video I attempted to play had issues with A/V sync. This was tried from multiple devices as well (phone, tablet, laptop).

Why did Google not put a dual band wireless chip in the device? Having this running on the 5Ghz network might have helped a little.

Other Thoughts: Considering the Chromecast did not live up the hype, looks like I'm sticking with the Apple TV and smart software in the television.

4 out of 5 eggsPerfect HTPC Add On

Pros: Streams Smoothly. Hulu+, Netflix, Crackle, HBO Go, Plex Media Server, Avia Media Server

Cons: Local Media on Phone not yet supported

Other Thoughts: If you want to play local media, install Avia and play local media from your computer. Or setup Plex Media Server on a computer and use the Plex App to stream to you your Chromecast. If you complain about local media then you did not do ANY research. There are solutions for all of the issues listed. If you want to simply plug it in and then hit play then you should have bought something else. Google is not responsible for your lack of effort.

5 out of 5 eggsbest way to stream online content

Pros: Works on all my devices with no issues at all.
I can watch Netflix and Hulu with ease.
Also I like being able to rent movies from Google Play and I get Blu-ray quality.

I can also switch apps on different devices with ease and no hiccups.

Cons: I would love if I was watching a streaming a video on my phone to be able to put it on chromecast.

Thats it as far as I can tell.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it advertises

Pros: Streams media from selected affiliates and possibly non-affiliated sites from within the chrome browser, see other thoughts.

Cons: None, does what it advertises I bet. See Other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Ok, folks, PLEASE do NOT pay attention to the people whinging about how it doesn't play files from their HDD/SSDs and claiming google is a wolf in sheep's clothing. They are plebeians with little education. Google NEVER said it would play files from your hard drive. It is meant SOLELY for streaming media and STREAMING MEDIA ALONE.

If you like the idea of streaming media from selected affiliates of Netflix, Hulu, and etc, plus the ability to view (or cast) web-site content from a selected chrome browser tab, then this is for you.

I do not own one myself at the moment, but I will be purchasing one soon enough for this. I have not deluded myself into thinking this thing streams anything at all like some seem to have.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Device!

Pros: Stream Netflix, Youtube, Hulu quickly and smooth.

Cons: Doesn't stream all games, really wanted to play Real Racing 3 on it.

Other Thoughts: I don't understand how folks get mad about what this thing DOESNT do. You have to do research, and decide what's best for your situation.

I love that you can have multiple people streaming from it at once, and it puts the videos in a queue. Can turn a party into a lot of fun, will be testing that out soon.

The great thing about this device is, it's android. As long as google doesn't get too carried away with keeping people from doing other things to it, developers will find a way to make it better.

In my house, we have 3 TV's. One with a playstation3, one with a wifi enabled bluray, and now, chromecast. I like chromecast better than all of the others, for the simple fact it is so easy to use. There is NO wait time between apps, and the quality is great!

It's a buy if you have done your research, and get it for what it does do.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Now and Promises to Get Better

Pros: This is a cheap and easy way to stream content from your phone or computer to your TV. The few apps that are available for it are optimized for it, so streaming HD works better than with most smart TV's/Blu-ray players/DVD players. Regardless of what you may have read from negative reviews, you CAN stream local content. This isn't supported on phones (yet) but you simply drop a video onto your Chrome browser and cast that tab to your Chromecast. It's simple, if not robust.
You can control it from pretty much any smart phone or computer on your network, so with Netflix for example, you don't have to share one profile for everyone in the house.
The device itself feels very sturdy. The HDMI extension is handy for crowded port panels, and it's powered with a standard micro USB port, so no proprietary hardware is necessary.
You can leave the stream from your phone to make calls, text and even browse what movie you want to queue up next without interrupting the playback on your TV. I love it so far.

Cons: Few apps are available at this time.

Other Thoughts: People trashing this device because it won't stream local content are not only incorrect, they're missing the point. Chromecast is an open source platform and many developers have apps ready to release, but Google is holding back for the time being. I feel certain they will open the gates soon enough, but for now they're making sure that only the best quality, completely functional apps are released. I don't blame them for that, or for making sure their own software gets a head start. It IS their platform after all.

Pros: Cool Looking paperweight.
Streams PRE-SELECTED COMPANIES IN BED WITH GOOGLE. Netflix, Hulu, Youtube which is now GOOGLETUBE.

Cons: I tried to play movies I have on my computer and it has absolutely no way to select a file from your HDD to stream. Thanks for the paper weight, I should have bought a Roku.

I also hate that I have to use Google Chrome the browser just to use this device. I would send it back if I could get my money back.

Other Thoughts: Save the money and buy a better device like Roku? or whatever other device that streams HD, this is a ripoff. RIPOFF. DO NOT BUY! GOOGLE IS TAKING OVER THE WORLD. ONLY WE CAN STOP THEM!
