Colossus 2: The Professional HD Video Recorder
The Colossus 2 from Hauppauge is an internal video recorder that's able to record TV shows, gameplay and other video sources to your PC in H.264 video compression standard. This add-on card fits into an available PCIe slot on your desktop, and uses studio-quality video encoder for recording video at up to 1080p30, with support for 1080p60 passthrough.
The Colossus 2 features an HDMI input and a Component input for use with a variety of video sources. The HDMI input accepts non-HDCP sources such as camcorders and some game consoles. For HDCP-protected sources, such as a set-top box or other game systems, recording can be done through the Component input which also supports HD resolution. Using the included WinTV software and IR blaster, the Colossus 2 can control your set-top box so you can schedule recordings for your favorite shows to watch later. Beyond recording, StreamEez software is bundled, which allows you to stream your gameplay and other video to popular platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, and UStream.
Colossus 2 is based on a video encoder used in TV studios to create professional quality HD videos. Colossus 2 records video from cable TV or satellite receivers, a DVR box, the Sony PlayStation 3 or 4 or Microsoft Xbox One or 360.
Colossus 2 gives you amazing audio and video quality. Colossus 2 records using H.264 compression at HD resolutions up to 1080p. Once your recordings are stored on your PC hard disk, you can play them back to your PC screen or HD TV set in HD with full 5.1 channel audio. The H.264 recording format is used by Blu-ray disks and exceeds other compression standards in quality and disk space consumption, providing a crisp image with amazing digital sound. And H.264 uses 1/3 the disk space compared with the popular MPEG-2 format.
And with the optical audio input, you get amazing audio quality from video game play or live TV broadcasts!
Record HD TV from your satellite or cable TV receiver. Connect the Colossus 2 to your satellite or cable TV box and use the included WinTV v7 application to schedule your TV recordings. The TV recording scheduler makes it easy to plan one-off or weekly recordings. You can also offload your DVR box. Simply connect the DVR to Colossus 2 to record programs stored on the DVR to free up space.
Create your own HD movie library: Create a collection of television programs, movies or even a TV series. Unlike DVR boxes, with Colossus 2 there’s no limit on how much video you can record. If you fill up a hard disk with your recordings, just add another disk to your PC. Colossus 2 can also record to external USB hard drives.
Record your PC gameplay in HD without slowing down your PC. If you’re a PC gamer, the video compression is done inside Colossus 2 so you can record your PC game play in HD without slowing down your PC. If you’re an Xbox or PlayStation gamer, use Colossus 2 to record your gameplay in full HD.
