LIAN LI PC-7HWX Aluminum ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

What goes into your case is more important than the case itself, and that's something Lian-Li hasn't forgotten. To protect its cargo from excess heat with a veritable maelstrom of air, this case has two 140mm fans in the front and one 120mm fan in the rear. The case offers enough space for three external 5.25" drives with tool-less installation, four 3.5" internal hard drives, one 2.5" hard drive, and eight expansion cards. A transparent side window allows you to display your set-up in style.

4 out of 5 eggsSlightly Disappointing

Pros: All aluminum construction, very sleek looking, the fit of the case is outstanding in the way the parts come together. The aluminum is lightweight and the case comes with 8 PCI slot openings, in case you are running a bottom mounted double wide video card. A decent amount of room for a mid-tower case. The Case was delivered with no damage. Oh, it comes with a little speaker too.

Cons: This particular case, while being a Lian Li, and not a Lancool, is simply not made as robust as the earlier Lian Li series cases, like the PC-65, PC-8N, etc. The aluminum corner posts in those old cases do not exist in this case, but are replaced with stamped and riveted aluminum sheet.

Other Thoughts: I decided to use this Case for a new build that I am doing for a friend. I have purchased many Lian Li cases in the past, (and other brands as well), and I was a bit disappointed that this case was simply not nearly as robust as those earlier offerings. This was not the Lian Li quality I was used to, so I felt a little cheated on this. Oh, the workmanship is great on this case: all the holes line up, all the threads were correct, and the exterior finish was top notch. But the earlier reviewers did get it right, in that this case feels a bit flimsy, especially with the panels off of it. It actually does help when you start putting components in the case, and along with the side panels, makes the case feel a bit more rigid then. Do yourself a favor, and use the 4 screws on the top of the Case, (instead of the rubber plugs), and this helps make the case feel more rigid too. So, not all is lost here, as the Case really does look fantastic, but I will not be purchasing another one of these. I am happy to pay a bit more, for better quality with aluminum, and I will. I am just sorry that Lian Li did not make this case anywhere as robust as those earlier cases.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case!

Pros: Love this case.
Good air flow.
Looks good.
Filters on front fans and bottom mounted power supply.
Fans are super quiet and move plenty of air.

Cons: Was able to install only one fan on top, not enough room to install 2nd one, motherboard heat sink is on the way.
Did not came with fan grills for the top.
Only 4 HDD's 3.5-Inch HDD Expansion
3 5.25 is overkill today, nobody has 3 DVD drives!!!

Other Thoughts: Bout Lian Li (PT-AF12-1B) Top 120mm Mesh Grill for the top of case from other site.
Ordered Vantec Stealth 120mm Model SF12025L
Lian Li please add more HDD's Expansion bays and less External 5.25" Drive Bays!!!

4 out of 5 eggsNot Quite

Pros: Good case for an air cooled build, unless you're planning on doing some significant modding.

Cons: Build quality not what I remember from Lian Li (see other thoughts).
Cable management space limited.
No rubber grommets or edge protection on cable management access holes.

Other Thoughts: This case was purchased specifically to house a Cooler Master Nepton 240M with the Lian Li 7H-1 Radiator Expansion Kit (radiator fans in a pull configuration). With the Nepton installed there is no clearance between the motherboard and the radiator. If you're using an ASUS or ASRock motherboard where the CPU Power Connector is at the very top edge of the board, see fail.

I was also disappointed in the overall build quality of the case. The Lian Li PC-60 (2008) case that this was going to replace is a much sturdier design (square aluminum channels at the corners).

5 out of 5 eggsBIG and BAD

Pros: It's BIG and it's BAD
I put together my video workstation nicknamed "KING_KONG" and this case does the build justice.

i have over 10 hard drives in mine at any one time, 5 fans installed, and the cable spaghetti is not a problem - that alone is a first for me.

bigger is better

Cons: none. unless you aren't man enough to fill it

2 out of 5 eggsFirst Lian Li and will be last

Pros: good looking with good air flow

Cons: paper thin side panel, very very lousy finish on the case... i feel like getting a case of 50 quality instead...

Other Thoughts: first and last lian li case ever from me

3 out of 5 eggsFirst Lian-Li, mixed feelings

Pros: First Lian-li case and I wanted to see what the hype was about.
I have the windowless black interior version which looks to be discontinued and no longer sold here.
The case has great airflow with the stock fans and I added my own to the top with low RPM's for some gentle pull.
I have a wireless bridge sitting on top of the grill to keep it cool, I had to purchase the grill at another place.

Front facade is nice to the point it comes off easily to clean the fans which have decent included fine mesh dust grills.

Cons: The sides are paper thin and my left side has a slight bulge. The cutouts for cabling are sharp and I had to add neoprene trim on them all so I did not end up with shaved cables.
The back area has no room for cabling and even worse for SATA power cables.
The lines on my Seasonic are so spaced apart bending wise I could not put the side cover on without practically snapping off the connectors on the drive.
The solution? I had to buy [$40] two hot swap bays and I used a molex connector for those which are spread apart enough they do not have a bend that sticks out of the case.

I admit the hot swap are nice when you need to put or pull drives but it added cost to the case.

Only 4 drive bays, there was plenty of room to add another 2-3 rack and they should have with the ability to remove it if you wanted to add a very long GPU.

3 5.25 is overkill today, nobody has 3 DVD drives, usually one and even none so that was wasted space to which more HD's could have been added.

The side panels not only are thin as mentioned but do not seem square. I had to add some small rubber buffers to the back or the side panels made a rubbing squeaking noise on the front panel. They seem to be off about 1-2cm for a flush fit that is not pushing up against the front facade.

Black is a fingerprint and dust magnet. Even with the front fan dust filters my entire case [being black inside] has a nice fine coating of dust that really shows up.

Compressed air does not move it, it's practically glued to the surface unless physically cleaned with a rag which is hard to do in a loaded case.

Top USB ports are extremely tight. Not sure if they are off center or just cheap in quality but pushing in a USB stick the entire top pushes in and removing is not much better.

I would have preferred USB ports on the front or offset like they are on the newer PC-10N.

HDD and power lights bleed together red and blue making a weird cotton candy type effect like many people have mentioned.

Simply having a plastic shroud around each clear plastic pilon would stop the light bleeding.

Attached the included speaker but have yet to hear it beep so it's probably just dead, not a big deal though but it can be if you have an issue and need the beeps to troubleshoot.
Luckily my board has LED diagnostics if trouble arises.

Other Thoughts: Sale and MIR it was $60 which is a excellent price for an aluminum case even if it does have some shortcomings.
All total though between adding upgrades the true cost was more around $130 and some of these items like grills for the top could have been included in the box.

I also bought the thumbscrews for the MB and did not use the included really small junk screws. I never seen screws for a MB so small, they barely cover the ground which is the whole reason you mount it on brass pegs.
The board did not feel as secure, I fixed that.

3 out of 5 eggsVery disapointed

Pros: Looks fairly stylish. Big window.

Cons: Side window came scratched. Poor fit and finish. Paper-thin aluminum. Very little room between mobo tray and side of case for cabling. The aluminum side panel actually had a bulge in it because its so thin.

Other Thoughts: Should have bought my fourth Fractal Design Arc Midi R2. As an example. The Arc Midi has thick cellophane on BOTH sides of the window to protect it. Its fit and finish is better. Its much sturdier too. I could go on....

5 out of 5 eggsGreat gaming/performance case

Pros: The entire case is aluminum, not half aluminum, half steel like other cases. Not much in plastic parts. Even the USB / audio ports cover is metal. Everything is rounded smooth. Very clean design.

Side panel window is pretty thick lexan with a nice beveled edge that lights up nicely.

Fans are super quiet and move plenty of air. I definitely liked the fact that the case actually came with 1 rear and 2 front fans that are worth keeping installed.

This case is tool-less and the front panel comes off very easy for fan filter cleaning. Thumbscrews for the rear PCI slots and easy quick connectors for installing a hard drive or optical drive.

It is water cooling ready and has a nice top mounted cooler option and rear hose grommets.

Filters on front fans and bottom mounted power supply.

Cons: Price. A local retailer actually had this case 50 bucks cheaper, but was out of stock. I really wanted this case for a performance build so I ordered it anyway.

Other Thoughts: This case in just about as good as it gets for this price range.

Lian Li makes decent cases and case accessories. You usually get what you pay for.

Newegg shipped the case very quickly and it came undamaged. Box was very thick and packed well.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Case- A++

Pros: This is a very high quality case. You can tell from the minute you start unboxing it. Lian Li has made a winner here for the price. The case is roomy, has no sharp edges, looks great, includes USB 3.0, and has a side window panel. Lian li puts protective covers on some parts such as the side window to prevent scratching during shipping. The toolless design works great. The hard drive cage is high quality and easy to use. I love the air flow in the case. It also gives you the option to put a large 2 fan radiator on top if you buy Lian Li's optional accessory. There is plenty of room for the largest of video cards. I'm using an EVGA 780 GTX. There is also adequate cable management behind the motherboard. Access to clean out the fan filters in front is very easy and well designed.

Cons: I don't have any cons. The only suggestions I could make would be for Lian Li to include a 5.25 to 3.5 adaptor in front since I put a card reader in all my PC's. I also prefer the plastic power button Lian Li puts on some of their cases over this one which has a "springy" feel to it. This power button is Lian Li's older version.

Other Thoughts: I have assembled many computers, and Lian Li is my case of choice. This case just looks great, functions well, and is of high quality. Lian Li has done a great job of continuously improving their cases over the years by learning from mistakes and listening to user feedback.
