Make you HTPC fit in with the rest of your home entertainment equipment with this Fusion Black Veris case from Antec. Designed to match in color and size with your current equipment, this case will add new dimensions to your entertainment experience. The interior is split to minimize heat transfer between the system and the 430W PSU. Two side-mounted 120mm TriCool fans keep the air quietly moving and your system cool.
The front panel has an external bay for an optical drive with a matching cover to keep the lines smooth and a LCD so you can monitor system functions. Front panel jacks include 2 USB, 1 FireWire, 1 headphone and 1 microphone. A master volume control plus power and reset buttons complete the look.
Inside the case are two 3.5" hard drive bays with silicone grommets to minimize vibration and noise. There are also rubber strips and cushions throughout the case to eliminate rattle and other transient noises.

Good looking HTPC case
- Pros: Very good looking case, quiet and cool. Fairly easily to install the motherboard, HDD and DVD drive. Depending on the MB you selected, you may not be able to use both IDE HDD and IDE DVD drive at the same time because it is impossible to connect both devices with a single ribbon cable. I ended up using a SATA HDD and an IDE DVD drive.
I downloaded the VFD driver from Antec web site, instead of the one came with the box. Everything worked well after the driver is installed. The new driver allows the user to turn off the VFD when system is shutdonw or hibernate. This was a new feature added recently, I believe.
- Cons: Inadequate power cabling system prevents you from using SATA HDD with SATA DVD player in the same box.
The included power supply only comes with one SATA power cable. Given the the HDD and DVD driver are in two separate compartments, you need a Molex to SATA adapter to use SATA HDD and SATA DVD drive at the same time.
- Other Thoughts: I have looked into various HTPC cases, and I finally chose this one for its look and value. The only other one that I considered was Zalman HD160 that has very good build quality and look, but simply too expensive.
BTW, I did not like the silver version of Antec Fusion HTPC case. It looks good on the web, but not so in real life. It just looks cheap compared to the black version.
- Pros: The case looks great and seems well built. The interior of the case is setup efficiently, and the power connectors are just the right length. It is very quiet.
- Cons: In XP, the LCD is fully functional and easily visible, but not that useful with Antec's driver. The volume knob works for some applications but not others.
- Other Thoughts: I am glad I didn't buy one of the smaller HTPC cases, since installation was tricky enough. As for the LCD, it looks like LCD Smartie may be more useful than Antec's driver.

Cheap case, bad software
- Pros: LCD display is decent. Nice airflow design. Volume control knob.
- Cons: The reset button gets stuck, it wasn't made well so after pressing the button you must disassemble the case to prevent the button from being stuck "in". The DVD drive button feels cheap, it's hard to press and doesn't contact with the DVD drive's button well. The iMon software is junk, it has a IR receiver built into the case that uses iMon software, which works with Windows MCE but not with MyMovies or other third party apps for MCE. Case has a hard drive light, which can just be unplugged but who wants a blinking light on a MCE case. The cutouts for the front connectors for done very cheaply. The included fans are very loud.
- Other Thoughts: Decent case, but I wouldn't buy it again.
Highly recommended case
- Pros: Well built case has a professional finish that matches my cable box and my Sony AV receiver. Does not appear home-built. Installed 1.5 TB of SATA HDD and Bluray burner. All fits and works seamlessly.
- Cons: Elected to not purchase IR transmitter with case. This was a mistake, as it is not available separately for later purchase. Fortunately this is not problematic, as I use the Sony system volume control via HDMI to the AV receiver.
Good, but should be better
- Pros: The whole design is refreshingly understated and could pass for a home theater component. The low and wide proportions are just right. The Antec logo is (in my opinion) perfectly displayed -- it's etched in flat black so it doesn't call attention to itself, but it adds to the quality look of the case when you stop to look up close at the details.
The front panel is made of quality brushed aluminum with a solid-feeling volume knob and a flush-fitting optical drive door that is compatible with most optical drives. The interfaces (USB, firewire, audio) aren't hidden behind a door (I don't like doors) and are cleanly integrated with the front face.
The rest of the construction is steel painted black, but it looks good, and will fit in with other home theater components.
There are two 120mm case fans on the side that exhaust heat from the case and assist with using passive cooling for the CPU and GPU.
- Cons: I wasn't expecting much from the "LCD" -- indeed, I didn't want a high-res touchsceen for something that will be connected to a HDTV and operated with a remote or a wireless keyboard. All I wanted was a small screen that would display basic info, the kind of thing you'd see on a home theater component. This case seemed to have exactly what I was looking for -- a small, simple screen. However, the screen is SHOCKINGLY BAD -- it's so awful that I always leave it off. The backlight bleed is TERRIBLE and makes it effectively just an obnoxious blue light instead of a screen, even with the brightness set to minimum. The included software is a joke. Using such a low-quality screen on any product is inexcusable and shows Antec will sell you garbage if you're not careful.
The power LED is the most obnoxious hue of blue and distractingly bright when trying to watch a HDTV in a dark room. Another "feature" I soon disconnected.
- Other Thoughts: It's a good design if you disconnect the lousy screen and the blue LED's. The screen doesn't have to be high-end -- it just shouldn't scream "this is garbage" in my living room. Also, both the screen and the power & HDD LED's should be variable color and variable brightness, to accomodate each customer's desired living room.
