When Thermatake entered the chassis market, their Xaser series of lightweight aluminum and composite cases stood them apart from the plain beige and plastic cases then on the market. The VG4000BNS Xaser VI continues this trend with its dynamic red and black design and a host of attractive features. Thermaltake cases are designed with cooling in mind.
A 140mm fan draws air in through the lower red mesh of the front bezel and goes out through the 120mm fan in the rear as well as the 140mm top-mounted fan. The VGA cards receive their own inflow of cooling air courtesy of the 140mm fan mounted in the red mesh and black aluminum side panel. Both the front and the rear fans are lit with blue LED's for visual impact. The 140mm fans can be replaced by 120mm fans using the same mounts, and provisions for a pair of additional fans venting through the bottom of the case.
The cavernous interior can fit 10 expansion cards in screwless slots, along with supporting a variety of motherboards in the slide-out tray which keeps everything connected. The case supports a trio of nVidia SLI cards or four ATI Crossfire devices. Up to 14 drives can be installed -- up to seven 3.5" and seven 5.25" drives connected along the edge of the case to improve airflow. An adjustable PSU support bridge provides a wide choice of power supplies. All your connection ports are in easy reach, along with the HD audio input and output jacks, behind a panel on the upper front bezel – surrounding the stylized X-shaped power button. This is the case that lets you grow your system – and look good at the same time.

- Pros: Big and spacious case, more than enough to handle all the new large components of the latest gen computers with plenty of room to spare. Very fond of the cable management, it makes for a very uncluttered case. This is easily my favorite case I've had so far. Mostly metal a plus. Quiet. Tons of cable management accessories & screws. Adjustable pwr supply rail. Removable mobo tray works great.
- Cons: Handles/Hand holds would be nice for a case of this size/weight. I also had one of the plastic "fins" on the back of the case break on me while removing it from the box. The tool-less pins for mounting the hard drives are a pain and I just went ahead and used screws. The front panel I/O cover has a very flimsy/ cheap "feel" to it.
- Other Thoughts: Part of me wanted to give this case only 4 rating, based on the cons stated above, but it is just too cool. I love the gadget aspects of this box, like the flimsy front panel I/O cover and the hidden compartment on the top of the case. The case is very well designed. With all the space and cable management, you should be able to avoid having to use a liquid cooling set-up. You really can put your system in this case without the use of tools, with a very little patience. I never fail to be pleased with my Thermaltake purchases.
Very well equipped
- Pros: Very large case. Will fit a wide array of motherboards and any size video card. Whereas some buyers need to be wary of whether their favorite GTX card will fit within their case...there's absolutely nothing to worry about with this one.
The cooling is also very nice. There are 4 fans total, 1 120 mm in the back, and 3 140 mm at the HDD bay, top vent, and VGA. The mesh siding also assists greatly in airflow.
4 USB and 2 eSATA at the front allows connecting external media to the computer to be quite convenient.
- Cons: Alone, weighs about 40 lbs. With full setup, becomes an almost immovable object under your desk. Should definitely equip wheels onto it.
The "fins" on the back of the case are extremely flimsy. My case arrived with one of the pieces broken off...ended up crazy gluing it back on. It's fine now...but be wary of those fins. The lights on front of the case are also annoying at times...the headlights are extremely bright. Wish there was a button to turn them off, especially when watching movies in a dark room.
- Other Thoughts: The case is also one that only a mother will love. It's very much a hit or miss...you will either love or hate its appearance.
The case is also so large that the top piece that hides the power button, USB, eSATA and firewire connections becomes an annoyance that hits into the top of most normally sized desks.

TT Xaser Case It's BIG
- Pros: Plenty of room for just about anything you need. places to put more fans are all over this thing, very good for keeping it cool. The
- Cons: My only complaints would be it may be a little awkward to move. There is a nice spot on the bottom front to grip it by but no where else. There is a spot on the top that looks like it would have been an excellent grip spot but it is marked with a sticker that says "Not A Handle".
- Other Thoughts: Great case plenty of room for anything you will need to put in it.
- Pros: -Fits everything you could ever want.
-Slide out motherboard tray is something I've never had before and it's an amazing feature that makes it stupid easy to put everything inside. Slides out even with a Coolmaster V8 mounted. -Nice Airflow, it's obvious that this case keeps cool air moving through it well -Expansion slots for more drives than you'll ever need. -Plenty of good quiet fans.
- Cons: -Heavier than hell.
-(this is the reason for a rating of 4) cheap plastic hinges that hold the front panel on (aesthetic purposes only) arrived broken, RMA in progress
- Other Thoughts: Since it's a Full tower, it takes up quite a bit of room, and with it's insanely heavy build, you probably won't want to move it too much.
System Specs: Asus P6X58D Intel Core i7 920 D0 Coomaster V8 w/ Arctic Silver 5 GTX 260 core 216 @ 680MHz OCZ Gold 6GB Tripple Channel @ 1600MHz 2x WD 1TB Caviar Black RAID 0 Thermaltake Xaser VI
Good case, overall
- Pros: Sturdy construction. Lots of room. Easy cable management. Plenty of mounting hardware included.
- Cons: Case is too heavy. Once everything is installed inside, you could get a hernia trying to lift it by yourself. In order to open the side panels, too many screws have to be removed. The screwless clips holding the add-in cards are difficult to snap in place. The front panel could use some kind of spring mechanism to stop it from freely closing if it is not standing perfectly level. The accessory drawer which sits in one of the drive bays is very difficult to open. The On/Off and Reset controls are at an awkward location on the top front.
- Other Thoughts: I like this case better than the Armor case.
